Hey "Biggs" something tells me that if you're not Dan Glenn, you know him personally. I'll see you on Thursday. Teams cannot overlook Loyola. I've seen Coach Boehle do some pretty spectacular things with what he's been given. If the roles were reversed I'd say the same thing about Rocky/Dan. Each team has their stars but it's going to come down to who can execute the best, rally teammates and play with HEART. I'm personally looking for a GREAT match! No way are you Dan Glenn’s son?

They did but played hard until the end. Gotta give newport props amazing team and amazing grit. Loyola was by far and away the underdog and they played very hard tonight.

Loyola played really well - especially in the first two sets. I was impressed with their defense. Did I read the roster correctly - are many of them returning next year? A little more maturity under their belt and next year they could be a favorite.

The major players on the team that are leaving are Nico Posivak (lib) and Will Campbell (opp/sett) Returning members Luke Turner (junior/outside) Henry Wedbush (sett/opp/junior) Aidan Peters (junior/outside) Tristan Mortimer (junior/middle). I think the cubs will be dominant next year. Please correct me if I am wrong of any key players for next year.

Are you sure he's gonna be good? What club?

Also some other players like Dillon Klein (Freshmen OH/Oppo) Freshman? Are you sure he's gonna be good? What club? He should be a sophomore but got held back a year. Plays opposite for mb surf in a 6-2 so only on for 3 rows. In club he looked like nothing super special; however watched him the cif game vs Newport at Loyola and he had some nice swings.

Worked the match last night, and it's fair to say that the match was in Loyola's reach in the 3rd set-- until a pretty controversial call that really got the NH crowd back into the match. It was incredibly loud in that gym no doubt. If you're familiar with the NH gym you'll know that the overhanging beams and basketball standards give NH the edge as far as familiarity-- and sometimes the rules of what's in/out can be confusing-- even to the referees. The "turning of the tide" involved a ball that was played by Loyola (that to me looked like a "good, playable" save), and Loyola was able to play through and win the point. After the play ended the R1 called the play dead resulting in a point to Newport. In the 2nd set NH had the same situation, for which got played out, WITHOUT the ball being called dead, resulting in a point for NH. When that happened in the 3rd the Loyola Coaching staff was miffed and discussed at length with the R1, R2 and Team Captains. There was an extended delay, which ignited the NH scoring run that gave them huge separation in that set.
In any case, here's what I could capture. Dane Chalmers is such a reliable pin attacker and Karlous is such a gifted setter, but I'll have to say Caden Garrido was the hero this night-- clutch aces, blocks and kills in game-changing moments basically gave NH the win. Will Campbell is an utter beast and Luke Snyder (OH) is offensive threat. Henry Wedbush has great hands and put up a GOOD block. With 2 of the 3 guys coming back for the Cubs next year they will be the top seed in CIF.

The controversial call was not the same situation. I saw them both from the end zone and they were different. Refs were not popular with the Loyola crowd because of that but they called it right. Loyola did use up some emotion and mental bandwidth on that incident which didn't support their effort. Great battle though. Super Scrappy defenses on both sides.

That match was gnarly Campbell with 24 kills Turner with 20 Wedbush with 53 assists. Chalmers with 25 kills Garrido with 14 and Joe Karlous with 57 assists... That had a true title match feel to it

With JOs around the corner, quick question to the SoCal high school folks in the know - what do these players in the hunt care more about, CIF/State or Nationals? I know for 95% of HS players it’s nationals, but the level of play in these matches is top notch, and the intensity and crowd passion IMO is better than what we usually see at JOs even in the open finals. Just curious...?

Costa gets beat in 4 again. Newport too strong. Next year it's going to be Loyola Costa battling for the title.

Just curious...? I think that varies with time and each boy. My wife and I were talking to our son and this subject came up not too long ago. I assumed that he would say his club team(s). He didn't. He cared a lot more about his HS team. He spent 4 years with them, not just volleyball seasons, but the whole year. He loves his club teammates, but values his HS experience more.
