prisoner above said the same thing about TV I was trying to say but much better. As for schedules of tourneys I know many times TAMU has in the past still been looking for that fourth or fifth team to round out a tourney as a host based upon competition level and or RPI. Some years I see the TAMU schedule as a way to play the best competition available other times I have seen a gaming of the RPI so to speak and then one year I was in the WTF is this mode
I would assume it is the same for the best four or five programs in the SEC historically

I had a conversation with two different SEC coaches regarding schedules about a year ago and I doubt anything has changed to make what they shared with me obsolete today. The conversation was about overall scheduling, but the topic of schedule release was covered and below is what I was told. The SEC does not dictate when a team may publish their schedule. The school/team may publish the schedule as soon as the SEC releases the finalized conference schedule. This finalized conference schedule includes opponents and dates, but there may be some game times for a particular date that are TBD because it might be internally tagged for SEC Network, ESPN2 or ESPNU, and start times would be based on programming slot times. That is why you may see on a schedule a match date with a time of TBD. Once the TV schedules are finalized those times then would be updated. One coach said the biggest reason some teams are late in posting their schedule is because the coach is still finalizing their OOC (out of conference) schedule. Some coaches may have tournaments, and individual games that are on the table or penciled in at certain dates that are not yet fully committed or still being finalized, and so they may still be actively seeking either better competition, easier competition for a W, or teams with better RPI potential, etc.. depending on what they feel they need to accomplish in the pre-season/OOC schedule to make the overall season successful. The top four or five teams usually have the easiest time putting together a quality OOC schedule because they get many calls for tournaments and individual games from other top teams in P5 conferences or top mid-majors and they don't have to worry about finding good RPI competition. (Florida's is out and I bet Kentucky's is completed and will be out soon) I am sure there are other reasons such as internal processes that could cause some other time delays as well. Thanks for this info. Makes much more sense than SEC asked them not to release yet, but UF did anyway. I knew that sounded wonky, homer or not. Lol

Lol Prisoner thanks for the info...”The school/team may publish the schedule as soon as the SEC releases the schedule” ... This may be the key. The SEC has not publicly released as of today and only one school has released their schedule. Based on last year most SEC schools release in late June or July. My info is much more up to date and straight from a school (SEC) staff member who handles this. Call him wonky or a liar the actual facts of when these schools release schedules make him look correct! Lol! Sure, schools have to find that last match, round out their home tourney but the schedules I have seen are complete and have been for awhile. I never said this is the only reason schools don’t release now or earlier. I was just specifically given a warning not to share or publish the complete schedule “because the SEC has not released the conference schedule and they don’t want it published”. Trainer, let it go already...geez Winter is coming!

One out-of-conference P5 opponent (at least it's a good one - Iowa St). MO State, UCF, and Rice are good mid-major squads, but this is pretty weak sauce, imo. They scheduled FOUR matches against P5 out-of-conference teams last year (UVA, Iowa St, Oregon St, and Ohio St.); this year, just Iowa State. And last year, despite their loss to Rice, their success against Ohio St (W), Oregon St (W), and UVA (bad, but still a W) kept people talking about them until the conference season started and they went 0-4.
I guess I don't understand how SEC schools think schedules like this are going to help them in the long run, especially when OM has most of their main contributors coming back from last year. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Oh - I just noticed that Jordan Fate is not on the OM roster for 2019. Did I miss this somewhere? I know they have another tall setter coming in this year (DeLo), but I don't remember seeing Fate being mentioned as leaving.
Time to update the first post ...

I would think making the tournament would probably be the best thing for Ole Miss - in which case maximizing their RPI which can be aided by avoiding P5 teams could be the right strategy. I am not sure I would buy the argument of gaining exposure by playing higher profile teams. Playing a tougher schedule potentially could aid them in being better prepared for the conference season, but I would not put too much into this. I suspect that Ole Miss scheduled such that could get them the best chance of getting into the tournament. Their OOC opponents had a .642 w/l% last year, which is pretty good for the RPI. The question is how many games should we expect Ole Miss to win OOC? They are likely to be underdogs against Rice, Iowa State, UCF and Tulane. Missouri State, Little Rock, and Central Arkansas could be in the toss-up range. @ American is not a guarantee. There is opportunity here, but this isn't necessarily an easy schedule for Ole Miss unless they are substantially better this year (which they may be banking on). Just glancing at their conference schedule - and I think this is on the tougher side with 2 matches against Kentucky, Tennessee, and Missouri (Florida just once) and just one match against Mississippi State and Auburn.

Per the transfer thread, Carsyn Starr has announced her transfer to Charleston Southern. Updated the first post with that.
Bad news for the MS State Bulldogs, good news for Charleston Southern!

Quick scholarship question. When does the year end for a scholarship? If started in the summer semester is it complete at the end of Spring semester or does it go thru the following summer semester?

transfer thread reporting that it’s Carsyn Starr - “transferring” to Charleston Southern. Why the quotation marks? Didn’t she attend this semester? Because in the volleytalk context, "transfer" usually connotes someone who has played for team A and is transferring to team B. Ms. Starr never suited up for the Bulldogs, so I added the quotes.
