The preseason All-SEC team is: Rachael Kramer - UF Gabby Curry - UK Leah Edmond - UK Madison Lilley - UK Taylor Bannister - LSU Emily Stroup - Ole Miss Kylie Deberg - Mizzou Mikayla Shields - SC Tessa Grubbs - Tenn Hollan Hans - TAMU People who are perhaps notably missing: Middle blockers other than Rachael Kramer (Mikayla Robinson comes to mind); Thayer Hall; Cooper/Skinner from UK; Setters other than Madison Lilley (Donovan?). Not going to gripe about only one L on the preseason team, and last year's LOY is probably a safe bet, though dman may demand a recount.

If there is consensus that there is a drop off after LSU (I certainly think that's what the evidence suggests at this point), and that AU and MSU are the likely stragglers this year, let's take a look at the four teams in the lower mix (alphabetically): Alabama: New coach, loses high flying MB Cidavia Hall, and (apparently) 6-rotation OPP Mahalia Swink (not on roster). Returns Neelon and Byrd in the setting spot(s), Carter and Perinar on the OH, and McSparin in the middle. Does Wells step into the starting MB position opposite McSparin? Who takes over for Swink, Fr Emily Janek or maybe 6'3" British grad transfer Eva Barrowdale? Who takes over at libero for the reliable Gary? Swink and Hall are the main losses, but Carter, Perinar, Byrd, McSparin and Neelon is a pretty good returning nucleus for Coach Devine to work with. Bama beat Arkansas twice last year, so like I said, it puzzles me how the Hogs ended up over them in the projected standings. Arkansas: Loses its pretty good L and both RS starters from last year's 6-2 (which they played for most of the year), and frequent starting OH Logan Brown to transfer. They are returning a team that is underclass heavy (only one senior, setter Rachel Rippee), and features pretty solid OH/RS Hailey Dirrgl and MB Liz Pamphile, both rising juniors. Both setting options (Rippee, rising soph Gracie Ryan) return, as does frequent starting rising sophs MB Ellease Crumpton and DS Lauren Evans. Newcomers include Fr pins Natalie Perdue, Jill Gillen, and Maggie Cartwright, Fr DS Abbi McGee, RS Fr Maylin Garrett, and Jr transfers MB/RS Devyn Wheeler and DS Savannah Downing. Questions: Who is the libero, Downing or Evans? What is the formation, 5-1 or 6-2? How quickly can the freshmen pins contribute? The staff thinks all 3 can nab some playing time. How far has Garrett progressed during her RS? She is a great athlete - can she put it all together? Lots of questions here. Could take a jump forward if the Fr contribute, or it could be a season like last year, where there are some bright spots and some head-scratchers. UGA: Loses Ceasar to transfer. Is that good (chemistry upgrade) or bad (terminal arm not available)? Also gone is dynamic and sometimes impressive MB Majesti Bass. Karstens, the other frequently starting MB, is also lost to graduation. Donovan is back to set and is likely the starter, and Rachel Ritchie seems to have one of the OH positions locked down. Glover (or maybe a healthy Rothenberger?) is the likely L. Who are the MBs? Naves, Young, and one of the two incoming FR (Froemming and Gray) are the candidates. I think Young saw the most PT last year, but this is a pretty big question mark for the Dawgs, imo. Hernandez came on strong last year towards the end in the OPP position, but the Dawgs have also brought in 6'3" TR Kaylah House from Coastal Carolina. Does that portend a shift to a 6-2 with Donovan and Hans (or Fr Fortin?) setting? Do you really keep a 6'3" setter out of the front row? Who is the OH opposite Ritchie? The likeliest candidate seems to be incoming FR Kacie Evans (or Hernandez moves over?). There doesn't seem to be a ton of depth on the pins in Athens. Not sure what to make out of this squad. Ole Miss: Loses OH Wernentin, L Adams, and S Fate (not on 2019 roster). Bringing in TR Jr OH Izzy Gulick from Portland, Fr OH Anna Bair, Fr MB Ava Wampler, and Fr S Lauren DeLo. Stroup returns for her last year on the pin, and there is a stable of returning talent in the MB spots (Scott, Warnell, and Sultemeier). Who takes over at L, Bugg or Purcell? Does Gulick step in as a starter, or does Bair or Mulkey beat her out? Little used Lauren Thompson could be an option, too, I suppose, though I don't know if you go get Gulick if you are confident in having either Bair or Thompson take the other pin. Does DeLo challenge for PT, or is there a 6-2 in the offing for Coach McRoberts' squad? Of all the teams in this blob, OM is the only one who returns a pre-season all-conference selection (Stroup). How much of the load can she carry before her arm falls off? Is there enough ball control to get the talented crew of middles more involved in the offense? The Rebels struggled with that last year, even with a pretty solid libero. All of this is basically to say ... this group is a bunch of question marks. Each team has potential but also some pretty apparent weaknesses, but raise your hand if you saw Tennessee, SC, and/or TAMU -- who were lumped into this group last year, taking the kind of leap forward last year that they did? Who has the best shot of doing that from this year's middle/bottom group? Is there (sorry dman) an "LSU" story this year - a team that is expected to challenge near the top who just can't quite get it sorted out for some reason?

Is this it for the SEC on TV? I thought that sometimes we were on the SEC channel and sometimes we were on ESPN. Will there be more TV games announced later?

The Arkansas transfer’s name is Brown. Any word on whether she is eligible?

Thanks - the first post is updated.
And of course, I have to give a shout out to my Hogs for -- once again -- being the very last team to announce their schedule. Tradition!!! 🙄
