It was a great Stanford win. J Grey was the boss of set five. The winning hit beat TWO Husker All-Americans. Of COURSE you challenge -- it was for the national championship and the objective was to win. Particulars of the whiteboard aside, it's a pretty good indicator of the intensity required to meet that objective. Since when is killer instinct not a prerequisite to close out a championship? The only thing that can beat this Stanford crew is indifference.

Cook -- or any other coach in his position -- had to challenge the last point. It was his only chance to win and the play was somewhat close. Meghan was about 1 inch behind the line. He could not afford to not challenge and go into the locker room with an unused challenge, only to find out later from a review of the tape that there was a line violation. I don't see this as a good/bad sportsmanship issue.

Just now, I was re-watching the end of the title match for the Nth time. A few minutes ago, I noticed something that had escaped me these three-plus months. After John Cook's challenge re: McClure's championship winning kill - which was rejected, as everyone knows - the down ref (R2) gave a quick "stink eye" look at him as the coaches started shaking hands and she headed for her locker room. Guess she felt the same about SUCH THE classless act - Completely Upstaging the spontaneous, giddy exuberance of the SU celebration - as many did. A "good egg", Ms. referee! Wow. You really need to move on. What's it like having Coach Cook living rent free in your head?

A good Stanford win, and an unfortunate situation to and the match.But, being a few months back you have probably forgotten that the 'over the line' call was brought to Coach Cook's attention by an Assistant Coach, and being such he made the challenge. And from a back-court view she looked over, but she clearly wasn't from a side view. Just Sayin' - * You probably also noticed by watching so many times that Stivrins was there with the block - and just missed it..."kidd" -- I am going to address this in reverse order (amazed at the feedback to this, btw): 1) McClure's game winner went off of Foecke's forearm; both she and Stivrins were 'split' by Meghan's back-row, winning attack; 2) Said assistant was wrong on both challenges; the other was a McClure (again) serve on the end line. He also wanted challenges/badgered R2 (with Cook) twice more;
3) If I were Cook, I'd attempt to "reign in" said AC (or get a better one): that kid seems to think HE is the Head Coach (or its equal) -- WAY Too Hyper and uncontrolled;
4) My comment was an impression of a brand new (for me) observation in a match that I have reviewed ~ 10 or so times now; as a fmr. coach, it is what I did/ still do;
5) NOTHING discussed here makes a rat's-ass of difference: nor would it have, even right after the match. Cook's 'sportsmanship' (see Jim McLaughlin) Is WELL Known!

Lmao MY team just defeated YOUR team: nothing "in the dirt" about a team w/ 8 NC titles beating a team with three fewer (Tho' their fanatical, hypersensitive "fans" think & feel that they invented the sport). You Aren't the best VB school: you are THIRD (got 2 more to go to catch up w/the Flying Sanduskys; let alone Tie SU). Btw: you're reported!

The fact that you like the post concerns me greatly Geeez, Jethro, you are gonna give yourself a hernia - if not a cardiac arrest - attacking everybody who You Feel is attacking your saintly Homer U. Gramps, NO Poster here disses more than vous! HINT: see your proud declaration of "All Probation" just beneath your avatar. Afa whiteboards; they were stupid to not take it down pre-Instagram. I presume - since you weren't ever an athlete - that you Do Not understand locker room-culture. It can be pretty harsh (plus, I bet J Cook does similar). Dumb: get over it!

I look forward to that as well, maybe you guys could bring your blow dryer and burn Harry Husker up in person .I wonder if your coach can tear himself away from the hair commercial long enough to notice this time. #classycardinal
