Rainy conditions outside, late week 2 hour game time change, and no pep band in the house- still a decent crowd though braving the elements to take in some B1G volleyball. Go Illini!

The Illini should have a pretty good run for the rest of the league slate, especially if they can get healthier.

Illini sweep!
Taylor Kuper with an awesome game. She was all over the court- digging everything and laying out, keeping the ball alive. Good service pressure. The rest of the back row played well, too.
Beth Prince handling 3 rotations no problem. Good shot selection and displaying a range of swings. So glad she's healthy!

Rainy conditions outside, late week 2 hour game time change, and no pep band in the house- still a decent crowd though braving the elements to take in some B1G volleyball. Go Illini! We met a couple groups trying to enter the building as we were leaving. Not everyone got the word on the change in start time. Were you at the match? We had a terrible time trying to get to the Ubben lot from the west. I swear that they had every road that we tried to use blocked off. Apparently some sort of band function. We arrived after the national anthem. Others in our section dribbled in over the first set. Team looked good. Especially like the play of Kuper. Serving was on point tonight for everyone.

U of Illinois Athletic site article on the match: fightingillini.com/news/2019/10/26/volleyball-no-17-illini-sweep-buckeyes-on-pink-night.aspxIt was a miserable fall weather day in much of the Midwest. We suffered through a cold, steady rain that never let up from morning until about 10 at night. I believe it worked to the advantage of the Illinois football ( primarily run-oriented) team in their defeat of Purdue (a passing team) at West Lafayette, Indiana. Final score UI 24-PU 6. The announced attendance at the volleyball match was 2,601. There were a few factors that may have kept students and others from attending. First was the miserable weather (thank goodness for the off-site parking and bus service to the front doors of Huff that kept some of us mostly dry). Also, it was high school band day at Memorial Football stadium (how unfortunate for all those high school bands and their fans having to endure the rain). Several streets around Memorial Stadium were blocked off from traffic making it difficult to get to the volleyball match. The volleyball ticket had a printed 7pm start time. Although this time had been changed some time ago to 5pm and the time change had been announced through various media, some fans did not get the message. As we were exiting the bus after the 3-0 sweep at 6:45pm, there were fans waiting to board the bus to go to the match that they believed started at 7pm. In spite of the 3-0 Illinois win, I thought it was a well-played match. Over the years, Ohio State always seems to field a team with a lot of size and talent on their side of the net, and this year's Buckeye team is no exception. They came out playing very confidently with a lot of hustle and determination. I do believe OSU's Coach Carlston's histrionics on the side-line, hinder rather than help his team's performance. I particularly dislike the very visible frustration he directs at an individual player when that player makes a mistake. Then there is his confrontational style with the officials. All coaches question the officials at times. Some coaches carry it too far. Carlston is one of those. There was an awkward moment in the match when Carlston was upset with his team losing a point, and the game ball ended up in Carlston's hands. The up official was waiting for Carlston to throw the ball back onto court before resuming play. After a bit of a pause, the up official motioned to Carlston to toss the ball back onto the court. Unnecessary theatrics by the OSU coach.

Where are all the ILLINI fans? Last year tons of fan input and action, the year not so much.. Are they 10-9 now? It does help to have a winning record. That’s horse crap answer. If you are a fan you are a fan whether the team is on a run to the final four or have a 10-9 record. Can’t stand bandwagon or fair weather fans.
