I expect a little more heat on the ball, to be quite frank. She simply doesn’t hit the ball hard enough. The more you talk, the more I wonder how many Husker matches you saw this year. When Callie gets good balls to hit, she has plenty of pace; just as much as Jazz. Yeah, okay. I agree to disagree. Edit: Nebraska’s offense is not balanced when Schwarzenbach is in the front row, and that is no secret in the Big Ten.

Yea, SchwarzenBLOCK laid down some wood on more than a dozen balls last season. She hits plenty hard if all the timing is right.

I think some people underestimate the potential of Callie Schwarzenbach. She was a three sport athlete in high school. Probably little S & C training. Give her two winters and summers of S & C. Spring and summer work with Hames. I think Callie has a chance to be an all-American in the future. I would be surprised if she isn’t at least a third teamer. She has a high ceiling. She has a laid back demeanor and personality on the court. She played pretty hard. Her intensity will be stronger when her confidence and feel for all aspects of play is more second nature on the court. It will happen with time, experience and better play. She will be needed more as her last three years unfold. Replacement for inadequate play? IMO, that will not happen. Worries should be placed elsewhere.
At other positions, Nebraska has talent. Some players need further development and experience. Other players are young, younger and inexperienced. But the ingredients are there for great play. To me the biggest worry, right now, is a competent back-up for Nicklin. That is scary. Sun will get better. Has she had a good S & C program and attacked it? I doubt it. Hames will look different in two years for sure. Davis will improve and push on the left or even the right side. Maybe the right. It’s big Knuckles and Kubik arrive this January. Both very talented freshmen who should have strong roles to play in 2019. Knuckles could be the libero but Miller will have a say.
Madi is a more advanced player entering college. She plays six rotations now, albeit at the high school level. She isn’t the thumper that Mikaela was entering college. She might be more crafty hitting at the same age. I wish Hames entered college a year ago. But it took awhile, but the final result was a couple points from a national championship. Sweet will get better. Her desire is strong. Strivens will be better because her connection with Nicklin will be a year more in reps. Miller will be better. Densberger needs to be more consistent in keeping her serve in and getting a bit more bite on it. Gabel has talent and will make the coaches think. Szabo will be healthy and could have a strong niche role to play. Zuhn oozes potential and will push the pins. Her future has a pretty high ceiling too. We are a pretty talented squad for 2019 and beyond. Only Stanford, maybe Minnesota, Texas, Illinois, Florida and Wisconsin will have rosters of such talent. The Cardinal will be the favorites in 2019 with that returning roster and the number one recruiting class of 2019 providing more competition in the gym.

We should have a ton of defensive talent with Miller, Knuckes, Densburger, and Gabel. A plus there is Hames who digs as well as anyone. We will have to find some servers to replace Foecke and Maloney. And who will be the 3rd MB, Stuthert? On offense, Kubic and Davis will battle for OH. I guess that Szabo wil backup Sweet, but I just don't know where Zuhn will go, OH, Opp, or MB. And what about a backup for Hames? Is Kurkova ready or is a transfer coming in? There is a lot of talent to work with, but a lot of questions marks, with no go-to hitter to replace Foecke. It will be fun again for Coach and staff and the fans.

Edit: Nebraska’s offense is not balanced when Schwarzenbach is in the front row, and that is no secret in the Big Ten. Vup's right. Callie needs to put more pace on her balls and I'm not sure how that's even up for discussion. If Nebraska fans want to see some freshman MB's who put heat on the ball, go watch Gneiting, Butler, Hord, Gros or Gray. Most of Callie's kills this season were due to the fact she has a high contact point @ 6'5", but even her angles/shot selection could use some work. Also looking at their respective freshman seasons, Jazz had a much better season than Callie. Jazz hit .273 with 2.216 kills/set, compared to .291 and 1 kill/set for Callie... I thought Jazz's ceiling was much higher after last season's than I think Callie's is now (but of course Jazz's season this year lowered those expectations a bit). Callie showed she's a solid blocker, but as someone else pointed out, she was next to Sweet for 2/3 of her rotations. I think Callie has really solid fundamentals, but she is due for some S&C. I'd still like to see her start in 2019, but hopefully Zuhn will give her some good competition.

Mass transit based on Runzas...what a concept! (in order to qualify this as a volleyball-related post, I would respectfully point out that the transit system needs to have a stop at Devaney.)

So as there is little traffic on the beach side of VT. Does Kenzie, and Mikaela's signing session later this month effectively end their college career?
