At the start of the season I said Slaughter and Szabo wouldnot play or see much playing time, unfortunately I was correct. Szabo is not as far along skill-wise as Slaughter was. Szabo will NOT push Sweet, again unfortunately! I see more Huskers transferring out- the back up setter and back up Libero ( foreign) neither will play. Capri Davis is coming along nicely and will get better and better. Kurkova and Abramovich won't leave unless they're homesick. Both are on non-athletic scholarships. Kurkova is there for her Master's as much as volleyball. In Chen's case, she's really close with a lot of the players and is loving the experience.

I've watched her play and she is rough, but she is a hell of an athlete. I want to see if the transition from being a 3 sport athlete to playing strictly volleyball happens. Cause if it does, I believe she can be a go to player. While still technically raw, Meyer made a big leap playing for VCN last season. So I agree with you about her focusing only on volleyball. While I would never call someone the next Foecke, though I'm tempted in Krause's case since she's the best prep attacker I've ever seen in the state, I think Meyer has a high ceiling and will be a major contributor down the line. Watching her at AAU, I had another Big Ten coach tell me she was the most physical player he had watched at that tournament. He also said, "If she wasn't committed, I would offer." Love Krause. If there was anything remotely close to being a "sure thing", she's it. I like that diamond in the rough player though. Meyer is so athletically gifted, I just want to see it when everything just "clicks" for her.

Meyer can absolutely thump the ball. At the state championships, I watched quite a few times where girls were in good position to dig her, but instead chose to duck and cover because of all the heat coming their way.

Foecke possesed some of the BEST leadership qualities I have ever seen IMO. That alone you cant even put a value on and while nebradka is loading up, I dont think we will see someone with her overall skill, and just personality/nature in a LONG time

Foeckes don't grow on trees, that's for sure. This year's senior trio is in the over-achievers club with Larson, Schwartz and Adams. Adams?

Foecke was on the junior national team in high school. Volleyball is Kalynn Meyer's 3rd-best sport. volleyball wasn't Houghtellings third favorite sport. Look how that worked out.

Agreed. It would be VERY easy for a girl of her skill and hype to be extremely cocky but I have NEVER ONCE seen that from her. She NEVER seemed to tear anyone down, and always remained focused and made sure others were as well, but also felt comfortable. I will truly miss watching her play and hope she has an AMAZING pro career

Don't think she's going pro. Recently engaged, got into vet school according to other posters. Moving ahead, good for her, but will certainly miss her in red. She was so fun to watch.

Completely selfless

I remember her coming in as a freshman. Anyway, she goes down as one of the best at Nebraska. Too bad she isn't going professional. Very talented young lady!!!

great athletic ability, small town girl with great parents, hard worker, power. If Cook gets her to Foecke level I'll gladly eat my words, but I've seen her play several times and while she has 1 more year left before college she's not close to Foecke's level as a freshman. It’s folly to think ANYONE could be a future Foecke in high school. I think Kalynn has a really good chance to help our program. She made great strides when she got the better training in Lincoln. Playing against subpar competition with subpar training stunted her growth in volleyball and she’s just now catching up. I think she’s going be a pretty good player because of her power, athleticism, and work ethic. She already has the size and strength to play in the B1G right now. She just needs to continue grinding away at her craft and the end product will be good. Kalynn has tremendous drive and desire to be great that very few players have at her age.
