I hope to see a lot more of Hughes this season! Me too. Was very good in her first year at ASU. Shocked more wasn’t seen from her last year.

If I had to guess, I think the general consensus was Louis had pretty much all but locked up her position with prior performance and everyone else was fighting for the sole pin position left available. Hoye turned out to be an incredible asset on the court and really left very little room for competition for her spot... that is until her injury of course. After Hoye was injured I would bet it just shook the on-court chemistry and Buzz seemed like the natural option to right the ship with her experience. I fully expected an OH2 carousel but Hoye REALLY took it by the reins and ran away with it.

This was far less about Hughes and her abilities and more about Louis, Hoye and M Buzz in exactly the ways you described here. Spot on. I believe we will see a lot of Griere this year and so glad she has this spring to develop an even stronger connection with Brie going into the fall season. Speaking of spring ball, anyone going to have the chance to check out the Hawks this spring in Omaha, Ames or Cedar Falls?

I believe we will see a lot of Griere this year and so glad she has this spring to develop an even stronger connection with Brie going into the fall season. The pin depth is going to be a little shallow this season so it wouldn't surprise me to once again see M. Buzz playing as sort of relief to start the season. As much as I'd love to see her on the court full-time (and if she earns that in practice I would be happy) I can see an early starting line-up having OH: Hughes/Hansen & OPP: Skinner w/ M. Buzz getting time in all three of their respectives positions. She's so valuable in that utility player role that I can see her battling with all three of them to take over any of their spots if performane is lacking. Agree that M Buzz is such a valuable utility player. Lot of respect for her, as she has been so agile related to the differing roles she has been asked to play on the team each year. As relates to being thin at OH (again, all under the assumption that Hoye will not be back), I believe incoming Blythe Rients has played OH with her high school teams these last couple of years. Was Honorable Mention all-state in MN in that role this past fall. So, although primarily designated as a middle in club and in how being described coming to Iowa, I believe she has some respectable OH skills as well, which when things are thin at a position, may be needed. I recall Bond describing her at a Chalk Talk last year as "bouncy" and "versatile" related to roles she could play. Excited about our new faces coming in and so interested to see how the pieces are put together.

Spring Games today: The Hawkeyes play KState twice and the University of Nebraska @ Omaha today in Omaha. #GoHawks Found this on Iowa VB Twitter: "After a slow start this morning, the hawks woke up 😄 Iowa vs. K State purple (18-25), (21-25) Iowa vs. UNO (25-14), (25-21), (15-7)" Had to be a bit interesting for Sarah Wing to be on the other side of the net from her former teammates so soon. On another note, Frosh DS Maddie Hine no longer listed on the Iowa roster. Best to her in her future endeavors. Was/is going to be a lot of competition for back row playing time next fall. Even with Hine leaving, there will be six DS/Ls on the roster.

Hawks are taking on the Cyclones today in Ames. A win over State would always go over well for the Spring in Iowa City! #GoHawks
