Montreaux should be composed of recent grads... Foecke, Poulter, etc. This is a good acid test for them and exposure for club team recruiters .

I saw Poulter play a few matches this year, and watched the whole Illinois and Nebraska match. Poukter was a good setter but I think she has to improve quite a ton to be the US starting setter. She was slow getting to balls compared to some other elite setters. She wasn't aggressive with balls close to the net. When she did dump, it was lollipop. There was one point that she dumped 2 in a row and the defense picked those up with ease. She definitely could develop those skills better.
She definitely has a good potential but need more work at the international level. Maybe not for Tokyo 2020 but for Paris 2024 to make the US team.

Speaking of the setters, I was very disappointed by Lloyd's performance at the WCH. This season she was playing in Brazil, she still doesn't play as well as she did in Italy a couple of seasons ago. I don't know what is going on with her. Maybe it's time for Karch to reconsider the starting setter now.

For gold in Tokyo
Poulter-Plummer Larson-Hill Akinradewo-Adams Hentz
VNL 2019 is so important for adapting Plummer and Hentz. Speraw did it with Christenson, De Falco, Sander, Russell, Jaeschke, Patch...

I haven’t seen anyone better at getting those up that we have so..,

Would the current coach really put Plummer on the right side? I know he should, but we all know how much he likes left-handers there...

You really think that’s enough in our system? Zhu joined Chinese NT in 2013 WGP, then took her team to final of 2014 WCH. Also Yuan joined in 2014 and after the injury of their best MB, she played as starter in 2015/2016. Boskovic joined Serbian NT in 2014 WCH and then took her team to final of Rio. The other 4 projected startes have huge international experience. It's better to mix old and young. If it doesn't happen, USA won't beat out Serbia/China with Murphy/Llyod and 2024 squad will have huge problem after all 6 starters quit from NT.

I would appreciate the Zhu/Boskovic parallels if they were indeed parallels... but it’s clear the USA NT system is currently not prepared to throw in younger talent and allow them to be successful as countries like China and Serbia will. And certainly not 3 at once at a major tournament like the Olympics. I would love for at least 2/3 to make the 2019 VNL roster, that would be great experience for them for 2024. And I would like to see probably at least 1/3 on the 2020 roster. But all 3 as 2020 Tokyo starters? No way. Because of our system that’s a recipe for failure.

Sorry, not our court play (offensive/defensive) system, I’m talking about our developmental system lacking in preparing our junior athletes to senior level competition. Correct... bosko and zhu weren’t wasting their time playing low level ball in the ncaa when they were 17.. they were thrust into playing the best. The learning curve is massive. Players like Plummer, Carlini, Hodge could have gone directly pro if that were available to them and would likely have been better much quicker.
