The problem with Annie Mitchem is that she should've joined a team where she can start and keep working on her defensive skills. In the summer when I heard that she would join Scandicci, I was not quite excited about this, because I knew she was gonna sit on the bench most of the time. She had a great season at Filottrano, a great start of her pro career. But now she won't have the opportunity to develop her games, during a time of her career when she could've made massive progress.

Well.. Either way for me it does matter how Carlini and Malinov perform. Ognjenović already announced she will be in Tokyo and if Boskovic and Mijajlovic are health ..in my opinion.. Only Italy/Egonu and China/Zhu would stand a chance against them.
I'm not sure who was Cuba's setter, but China won with Feng Kun, Brazil with Fofao and Dani Lins, China with Wei..and I think Tokyo will be Ognjenović's.
Time will tell....

Cuba used to play with two setters, Aguero and Costa. Besides this, Italy is much younger than the Serbian team and they were so close to beat them at the WCH... I believe Italy will win the Gold, let's see...

When discussion on pro leagues (or lack thereof) in the US comes up, it always come down to the chicken and egg question. People say there is not enough demand in the market for a pro league, hence no one is willing to invest in one, hence there is no pro league. Well, the key then is to find a way to create the demand, or find a rich sugar daddy who is willing to sink in the money for sure losses for the first few years of operation. Ok...on second thought, maybe I shouldn't use the term "rich sugar daddy", but you get what I mean, finding some really rich volleyball fanatic who is willing to pour his own money into a league despite sure losses initially. Problem is, do they exist? Probably not, otherwise we would have a longer running league than the failed and aborted attempts we have now. That was tried in the early 2000s. It didn't last long. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_Professional_Volleyball_LeagueYes, I am aware of that league, which was precisely my point about failed or aborted attempts. We'll probably need a billionaire like Elon Musk, Warren Buffett or Bill Gates who is willing to throw money at it as a passion project to make it work. Unfortunately, we don't have such a mega rich volleyball fan.

Who are some of the NCAA athletes that will graduate this year that should be in/on the USNT gym/VNL 2019 preliminary roster? In reality will any of them even be considered until after Tokyo?

I only sort of got into the NCAA tournament this year but I really liked what I got to watch. Plummer (still a Junior) and Foecke were quite impressive. SSS from Minnesota also really looked good. Shame they didn't get further in the tournament. Not trying to get off topic...just trying to mention a few names I noticed. Could Maloney be the answer at Libero? I really liked seeing Robinson back at the OH spot during the Club WCH. She looked pretty solid. Karch seems to like Nebraska players in his pipeline.

I’d most like to see Poulter, Atkinson, Alade, Maloney, Foecke, SSS, Sauer, and DeJarld in the gym. But in reality only Poulter and maaaybe Maloney will get a true look before Tokyo.

I'd love for Maloney to get a look. idk if she will, esp if she has her sights on being a GA

How does Maloney compare to JWO? Wasn't JWO all the rage while at NEB?

I really only see Karch looking to solidify the setter and libero position. I honestly don't think he is looking for any other hitters or middles.

No offense, but based on the tournament alone, SSS was not impressive. She played more timid than I’d seen her all year. Sad, short run. Karch did compliment Maloney throughout his broadcast and hilariously knocked on Hentz a lot so it wouldn’t surprise me if Maloney got the invite. She’s worth at least an invite but it doesn’t sound like she or Foecke are interested.
