Honestly this would take a ton of stress off the student athletes and parents about worrying about college so young and making phone calls to try to figure it all out....also more time for college coaches to coach their teams rather than being available for every top recruit call. Also, more time to evaluate and fewer misses on kids that don't develop the way programs thought they should and get dumped late...also with coach changes of kids that recruit very early. I know this could place a big emphasis on camps, but in the long run, I like it! Also, kids that maybe can't afford to fly out for camps/visits, still evaluated at tournaments and can set up official visits just a few months away from initial recruiting call.

I actually like these proposals. I hate the hypocrisy of ignoring verbal "contracts" (call offers whatever you want) being allowed and then making a set date for written binding ones. If the NCAA feels strongly enough about the allowable date to commit, the NCAA should enforce that at all levels. How many people in VB does this really affect? There was a thread last year about recruiting and I think it said that most do not really commit earlier than this proposal anyway. There are very few Grade 8/9 commits.

Most people anticipated this happening after the half-measure passed last year.

I’m all for it. The volleyball recruiting process has become a bit of a circus.

Questions I have:
-Will this result in more transfers due to recruits feeling rushed to make a decision and having less time to get to know the staff and school? Or will this cause fewer transfers because recruits are closer to their college selves when they're making the decision?
-What clever methods will college coaches use to get around these restrictions? I see this change giving club and high school coaches a lot more power to be conduits and pass messages between college coaches and recruits, since there can't be any phone calls or email/snail-mail/texting.

Sounds good to me.
It does interest me that, similar to what I remember when lacrosse passed its new rules a couple years ago, the specific wording (granted I only scanned over it quickly) seems to only mention direct family- coach contact. Hopefully, as lacrosse quickly clarified after it passed its changes, these changes if passed would also prohibit using intermediaries (club reps, high school coaches, etc.) to circumvent the contact and offer rules.

Yeah, I doubt this affects Nebraska's recruiting

Kids will be forced to make decisions on quick timelines with less time to explore their options than in the past.

I agree. And that is not a good thing in my opinion.  I hope there are some strong restrictions on this. Being an intermediary I filter nothing and pass anything I get (verbal or in writing) on to families. Without recruits being able to call however I think these discussions and emails will slow down. Players will still know who is interested by who shows up on their court. I think a relationship can be formed in a couple months on the phone during the summer (when they are off school) and official visits can be used for what they should be. I’d love for kids to be able to spend time with college coaches/players on the school’s dime as juniors. This will still help well funded schools, but taking this stress off young kids and parents of these kids I think is ideal. And yes, comittments by 8th-9th graders are rare, but offers are not. We get a few 9th graders at least offered each year. Beyond their stress, adds to their teammates and parents that may be next level or two levels down that they are somehow late in the process.

But with 6/15 date to start talking, that gives them 2 1/2 months to get to know the coaches and decide what schools to plan visits.
