There were several 2021/2022 commitments in the last few days, but not as many as I expected. I heard some schoo,s made a rash of offers to multiple 8th graders before May 1. What schools?

When they get a camp invite, a PSA should try to find out through their recruiting coordinator/coach whether the college actually is recruiting them. College coach will want to fill up camp, but won't want to hurt relationship with the club by pretending to be interested in a kid they don't want. Once at the camp, most big schools put their recruits in a different court than the rest of the campers. Recruits get more instruction/time with actual coaches of that school as opposed to hired coaches and current players who coach the other courts. College coaches can't engage in recruiting sales talk at camp, but you can build a relationship and see what their coaching style is like.

My daughter is a sophomore, and we are looking to the summer. It's hard to know which camps to attend. We will have to decide by Nationals which ones and when and since the schools can call her by then, we should have an idea of which ones are truly interested. I'm trying not to have expectations and just enjoy the ride, but it isn't easy. I wonder how many stressed out sophomores there are out there. I am in favor of reining in the early recruiting, but I wish they would have allowed for communication so we can decide what to do. Now it will be tons of money to travel and pay for camps. Who knows what will happen, but I wouldn't be sad if she gets an offer from her dream schools at Nationals! How many colleges offer scholarships without the students attending camps?

You're not allowed to receive an offer until Aug 1st before Junior year. So you will not be getting that offer at Nationals. At least not legally.

I have seen multiple places that they can offer over the phone, but not in person starting on June 15th and that it this was added at the last minute to the rule changes. Although I have seen both stated.

As soon as the college can call/text/email on June 15th, they can offer a scholarship/spot on the team. If they left it alone and it was August 1st it would give recruits and colleges time to get to know each other before offers hit the table. This will be bad in years to come, when no communication and then "hello- nice to meet you - here is an offer.". Stupid amendment.

The bolded part is likely impermissible and would be a recruiting violation. Colleges probably have recruiting depth charts that are 20-deep ranging from 'offer immediately' to 'potential walkon'. So the college coach is allowed to say they are interested, but they can't say any more about where the kid may fall on their list. ncaaorg.s3.amazonaws.com/governance/d1/legislation/2018-19D1GOV_Prop2018-93and2018-94FAQ.pdf

I stand corrected
Division I Proposal - 2018-93-1
RECRUITING -- RECRUITING MODEL -- SPORTS OTHER THAN BASEBALL, BASKETBALL, FOOTBALL AND MEN'S ICE HOCKEY -- REMOVE ORAL OFFERS OF AID
Status: Adopted Final
Intent: To amend Proposal No. 2018-93 to remove the restriction on providing an oral offer of athletically related financial aid, other institutional financial aid, admission to the institution or as a member of an intercollegiate team before August 1 at the beginning of the individual's junior year in high school.
Always good to not know what's going on

This will be bad in years to come, when no communication and then "hello- nice to meet you - here is an offer.". Stupid amendment. I don't disagree with your theory. The amendment was due to a lack of enforceability and the ease with which a coach could say "you're #1 on our list AND we have a scholarship in your class. Can't wait for August 1!!!" So in reality, it would be hard to actually eliminate those oral offers anyway.

Have any schools shown interest prior to the restrictions? If so, lean towards those. If many schools have, go for the ones who have shown the most interest and your daughter could see herself attending. Last year when daughter was a freshman, we made the big mistake of going for the "big school" that she dreamed of over the one who actually showed interest. Court#1 was for the current team, Court #2 was for the recruits/commits, court #3 was for good players but not recruits, court #4 was lesser players and younger players. My daughter ended up on Court 3 and didn't get the time of day. The other school that had expressed interest has since filled their class for 2021. Thankfully it was early in the process. This year, she is going to 3 camps at schools she has talked to and have expressed explicit interest in her before the restrictions hit. Keep in mind that many camps fill up well before summer, though I do assume they would "find" room for someone they were truly interested in.

We have literally become softball! I agree it needed to slow down. I just wish the NCAA would make the rule more clear bc our compliance’s interp is different then many other schools.
If a 21 calls can you tell them the rule rather then not answering the call and not discuss recruiting?
