I read the Prep Volleyball article just released. One girl took 13 classes her junior year, and another 16 classes in order to finish in time. Just sounds like excessive pressure and desperation almost. To each her own. I guess. I wouldn't encourage that, but D was really just killing time - she was taking almost all college / AP classes, but wasn't allowed to graduate due to required number of semesters. And had no desire to enjoy the spring of her senior year with her classmates? Go to prom and graduation?

Hang out with friends. Volleyball is going to dominate the next 4-5 years of your life....

She was ready to move on and would have been happier spending the spring in college than high school.

With June 15th approaching... my DD (class of 2021) made a comment that coaches are going to be bombarded with phone calls on 6/15 so she asked should she wait to reach out? Will that be seen as she lacks Interest If she doesn't call? Also she knows AAUs are coming up so coaches next week will be traveling. She's playing GJNC Indy first week In July. What advice do all you VT'rs have? (She has been sending coaches regular emails with highlights the last couple months)

My daughter (2021) has a tournament on the 15th, and she is curious about who will call her. She is wanting to wait and see who is seriously interested. She has done a lot of emails and phone calls and is at the point of just waiting. We don’t have a camp itinerary yet. My daughter is going to wait and not call on that day.

My understanding is that this (or any) kind of discussion, in person, at Nationals for an upcoming Junior would be a no-no. ... I don't think anything has changed with the rules about talking to a coach at a tournament? Previously a player wasn't allowed to talk to a coach at a tournament (parents too), but you didn't have to pretend that you didn't know a coach and you were free to say hello. In my experience, some coaches were very conservative and would barely say "hi" in passing, while other coaches would push that envelope and would engage parents during a match and talk to them for a good 3-5 minutes (at least, but no recruiting talk!). I think anything more than saying "hi" for a player is not OK. I don't know what the rules are today for communication at tournaments but one of my girls was observed at a showcase and interest was conveyed to her at a subsequent tournament via her coaches. My daughter initiated communication with the college coach via text message and was able to communicate with the college coach throughout the tournament in this manner. At the time, the college coach said that they could not meet with her or us in person until the end of the tournament which we did. I believe this was all according to the rules at the time. But, my daughter was also a Senior at the time. I don't know if things would have been any different if she had been a junior. I wonder if this is all still OK for a Senior and OK for a Junior after the June 15 date.

With the new rules, this would be ok after the August 1st date when in person communication is allowed and visits are allowed. The June 15th date is when electronic (phone, text, social media) communication can begin. Edit for clarification: This is specific to upcoming Juniors. Seniors are all good for any type of communication.
