I tried to watch the Purdue IG stories to see who played what position but what I gathered:
OH: Newton OH: Cleveland MB: Mohler MB: Johnson/Cuttino S: Bush OPP: ? DS: Van Zelst (for the OPP I believe) DS: Otec/Hornung (Looks like both spent some time at libero)

Ohhh I kinda like Cleveland at opposite. She’s an excellent blocker with good size.

Agreed that Cleveland can make a difference at the net as OPP and keeping her out of serve receive means she'll get better looks for putting the ball away. Also think any opportunity to have her and Newton on the floor at the same time is a difference maker. Love that Van Zelst is in the line-up too. Unsure if Reisinger was there/played?

I hope this incoming class can push these players too - expecting big things from them.

Anyone see the match against Illinois? I was at Saturday's match which Purdue won in four sets (25-21, 25-17, 19-25, 25-18). I thought Purdue looked really solid in many respects. Hayley Bush was connecting well with her hitters and executed one of those setter dumps on two that she's good at. Shavona Cuttino, Jael Johnson, and Blake Mohler all saw playing time at middle and I feel like they were in on a bunch of blocks along with Bush and the pins. I was really impressed with Grace Cleveland and Caitlyn Newton. They each had several kills and big swings, including out of the back row. My recollection was that they were both playing six rotations, but don't quote me on that- I'm fairly certain they were at least both serving. I thought Purdue's floor defense and serve receive game were both solid. Marissa Hornung and Jena Otec were noticeable in this respect and had some huge digs. Hornung was libero in the first three sets and Otec was libero in the fourth. I was primarily focused on Illinois, with their new setters and middle, so my Purdue recall from Saturday wasn't especially specific but I'll try to take some better notes on them next week when they play Illinois again.

Coach Shondell recently tweeted about the new recruiting rules. Cannot communicate with a recruit until September 1st of their Junior year. That seems like a huge game changer for coaches and recruits. I wonder how many recruits Purdue has in its sights that will be affected by this new rule.
