What date does training camp begin at each level; D1, D2, D3, etc? D1 can vary from school to school depending on the first day of classes (and the date of their first match if they don’t play on that first Friday). I think the most common date this fall is August 10th.

I often times wonder how these schedules are put together. UMKC has Kansas at home for 1 match the 1st weekend. Often times it would appear that teams will do a home and home if they are unable/unwilling to schedule a tournament - especially if the schools are close together. UMKC and Kansas are very close together. Last year these teams played in an exhibition match - it would look like neither could find the right tournament for the 1st weekend so they ended up scratching the exhibition idea and starting the season against each other. This may explain why both teams are so late in publishing their schedule? Or, UMKC wanted a home and home, but Kansas didn't want UMKC on their schedule twice and this delayed 'finalizing' their schedules. Or Kansas new gym isn't going to be ready until the 2nd week of September and Kansas went with single close road matches to Kansas City and Omaha (Friday and Tuesday) and UMKC was stuck with just one match? Anyway - just one match the 1st week for UMKC is unusual. And as of now - Syracuse doesn't play the 1st weekend which seems highly unusual for a non-Ivy school.

What date does training camp begin at each level; D1, D2, D3, etc? For D3 the first possible date of competition is Friday August 30th. The date classes start effects how you apply the formula. If a school does not start classes till the 30th or later, and plays their first match on the 30th, they could have their first practice on August 17th. You can calculate your schools start date by counting the 16 possible "units" starting with the date before their first match. Formula: a "unit" is a counting value (1 or 2) assigned to each date starting from the date before the first match and counting backwards. You do not count Sundays(you can practice on Sundays). A unit is not a practice. Unit values per day going backwards: * The first six dates before first match - 1 unit each then * if no classes - 2 units * if class day - 1 unit Remember don't count Sundays. The day you reach 16 is the first day you can practice.

The Presbyterian College Blue Hose: I had never heard of the "Blue Hose", and thought that was the worst mascot name I've ever come across. I couldn't imagine yelling, "Go, Blue Hose!!" Had to look it up... www.gobluehose.com/ViewArticle.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=18100&ATCLID=1505337What Is A Blue Hose? By Presbyterian College Athletics March 2, 2008 Share| rss print What Is A Blue Hose? Courtesy: PC Athletic Communications The nickname “Blue Hose” began in the early 1900’s, when sportswriters referred to the Presbyterian College athletic teams as the “Blue Stockings” because of the blue socks they wore. Writers used the terms “stockings” and “hose” interchangeably over the years. They often shortened “stockings” to “hose” in newspaper headlines. Coincidentally enough, former college PR guy Ben Hay Hammet’s 1982 centennial history of PC noted that blue-stocking Presbyterians also referred to “Presbyterians with strong puritan leanings.” “At any rate,” Hammet wrote, “the sports nickname was shortened to ‘Blue Hose’ in 1954- presumably under the assumption that it sounded somewhat fiercer to carry onto the field of athletic battle.” The student body adopted the nickname as the official school nickname in the 1950’s. “Blue Hose” has survived all these years, taking on even more meaning. Today the name signifies fierce Scottish warriors, further adding to Hammet’s take on the term. This interpretation also reflects the college's Scottish heritage.
