'K, folks; Entire re-boot of this thread (after a Full-Page hissy-fit from one Who Did NOT Do the asked-for reply, here). My prediction? CP in a VERY close race w/ UH; LBSU 3rd, UCI 4th. Why? UH just might have up to FIVE Frosh starters. Their incoming transfers will ameliorate the raw 'green-ness' of said Freshmen. Afa CP? One 'word': TVW.

The lose one OH...a very good one and a good libero. Dickson looks to be quite capable of filling the libero spot with 2 solid athletic backups at DS. The oh is more problematic., Stiver played sparingly, the other ohs not hardly at all. The have a left handed opp that was pretty good but stuck behind TVW. The left hander played pretty well when TVW got hurt but payed a price for not much playing time during the season. Perhaps TVW moves to OH and the left hander moves to opp. You might get some pushback from TVW because she seemed to have a good connection with the setter, she got a lot of 1 on 1s. They return 2 all conference MB so I don't think that is a weakness and an all conference /conference freshman of the year who will most likely be better this season. Mack May (qtr system to qtr system transfer) would fit great as an OH, move into a starting spot on a top 20 team,I would guess that any chance of that happening ended when Crosson left. Hawaii lost both OH. Rasmussen is an upgrade from Granato but Castillo and the smaller Krug and Ross is a wash. They lose the tall MB(Sasha) and insert Williams who showed flashes of promise. The MB 2 is a giant question mark. Questions at opp and 5-1/6-2 system raises serious questions Libero and DS will be solid.. RAMS I thought did an incredible job only losing 2 conf. matches In my mind its a 2 team race.

Good synopsis of the two teams (Refreshing: here in the conference-thread)! I might question this; otherwise, a good read. W/potentially 5 Frosh starters, UH is "fuzzy".

Good synopsis of the two teams (Refreshing: here in the conference-thread)! I might question this; otherwise, a good read. W/potentially 5 Frosh starters, UH is "fuzzy".I agree that Hawaii is "fuzzy" but given the alternatives they seemed like a logical choice. UCI lost their all conference setter( a parting gift IMHO) and by all outward appearances will be starting a soph setter Wood who showed promise. I believe they are losing Desales who was an all conference OH and return Co Freshman of the year Marjama who did not hit a great percentage against the 2 top teams in the conference and should show some improvement. Not clear on who will step into the OH2 position.MD is a huge question mark with the loss of Akpakpa. Stewart appears to be the logical replacement with Wolfe moving to MB 1. Both opposites failed to distinguish themselves as go to hitters so UCI would be considered to be "Blurry". UCSB loses only one player but were such a 1 trick pony I'm having trouble seeing how they can improve enough to be in the championship race. Their setter is talented but tiny and a blocking liability. All conference OH LRuddins is a nice player but hit a low % against both Hawaii and CP. The younger Ruddins show promise but will need to figure out how to stay in the line up. Ennis is a solid MB although limited offensively and Robinson is undersized but capable. I don't see enough improvement for them to be in the same category of Hawaii and CP.UCSB is "Foggy" UC Davis is the only other candidate. I haven't seen enough of them to comment other than the 2 matches the played vs CP. In the 1st they were missing some of their top players due to suspension and the second they didn't put up much of a fight. I would welcome some comment from someone who is more familiar with their program.

- One little known thing about UCI's 6-3 MB Wolfe is she may be the best serving middle in the Big West. Wolfe had 24 service aces last season. In comparison Cal Poly's MB tandem of Mercer had 3 aces and Phillips had 0. Wolfe is also pretty good on both offense & defense. Let's compare her to Cal Poly's 2 returning all conference middles.
Wolfe = 215 kills, 2.05 k/s, hitting 0.333, 93 total blocks
Phillips = 164 kills, 1.82 k/s, hitting 0.328, 81 total blocks
Mercer = 158 kills, 1.70 k/s, hitting 0.291, 104 total blocks
- PrepVolleyball.com senior ace #49 6-3 MB Oni Ofoegbu will replace akpakpa and be playing at MB2. Ofoegbu was the highest rated senior ace among all Big West recruits and may offer UCI another candidate for Big West Freshman of the Year.
Yes akpakpa was a big loss but in my opinion UCI will be solid in the middle instead of a huge question mark.
- Loryn Carter will probably slide over to Opp as she did when Kekauoha was injured. Carter was named 1st Team all Big West and should clear up any blurriness opponents may have expected in this position.
- OH2 will probably be a competition between 2 injured scholarship hitters last season in redshirt freshmen Destynie Viliamu & Rs Fr. Kiani stanton.

I am going with Cow Poly first, they're the champs and in the drivers seat until someone pulls them off their tractor. 2. UH 3. UCSB

Castillo already graduated.... our two incoming freshmen Outside hitters (Wagoner and Hellvig) I am comfortable to say are both an upgrade from Castillo/Ross. Agree with the rest of your analysis. It will more than likely be a two man race.
