Is there a VB equivalent to this? I've seen some volleyball teams snatch defeat from the jaws of victory before, but volleyball sometimes seems like a sport where a certain lead late in a set is almost bullet-proof. This week in Eugene, the UO men's BB team, in front of 10K fans, had a 17 point lead with less than 7 minutes left in the game. Despite a UCLA surge, the Ducks still had a comfortable 9 point lead with 51 seconds to go. But UCLA managed to tie the game and send it to overtime. And then, in OT, UCLA scored the final 7 points to win 87-84. Is there a VB equal to this type of implosion? The Washington meltdown to Nebraska in the '08 regional in Seattle? Is there another VB end-of-match meltdown that would take the seppuku award?

Illinois losing to Nebraska after being up two, and being ahead in the remaining games.

The VB landscape is littered with teams who lost after being up 2-0 in sets. We're talking BIG lead meltdowns.

FIVB 2018 Club Championships - Zenit losing a 14-9 5th set match would supercede the above comeback/meltdown of the UCLA/Oregon Bball game last night.
Considering the sideout rate at the professional level of men's volleyball this is unheard of.

USA-Brazil 2012 Gold.. Sure it was 1-0, but what a 1-0. And they'd been rolling prior to that.

What about Texas vs BYU in the 2016 regional semis? Sure Texas was up 2-0, but BYU was blowing them away in the fifth to ultimately lose.

It's not at a high level, but I saw a HS match a couple years ago (best-of-three) where Team A won the first set 25-10. Team A went up in the second set 24-10 and the coach let her kid jump serve. It hit the 3-meter line. Team B rattled off 15 straight points to win 26-24. Team B then won the third set 15-5.
My best friend's team this year was down 24-15 in the 4th set, held off 9 match points and won 26-24. They then won 15-7 in the 5th. He wasn't sure whether to be mad or ecstatic afterwards when he called.

There was a UCLA/Oregon VB match on that same very floor a few years ago that had a terrible Duck collapse. According to the recap Ducks were up 18-12 in the 1st, 18-11 in the 3rd and 22-15 in the 4th and lost all 3 of sets.
Also Washington State had an insane comeback on USC in the Paloose. I think they were staring at 14-9 or 8 in the 5th before coming back to win. Similar to the Kansas/USC regional final too.

Oregon up 11-3 in the first set, UCLA's starting setter gets hurt...... and then the collapse. That was a heartbreaking year for Duck fans.

Arizona vs Hawaii 2016.
Hawaii without Nikki Taylor, Kalei Greeley and Annie mitchem (all supposed to be starters), goes down 0-2 to arizona. On the back of a INSANE performance from Granato, Hawaii wins in 5, even after being down 2-8 in the fith set.

I don't know about the volleyball equivalent, but just one day earlier Creighton had a five point lead against Marquette with a second left and lost. Even had a three point lead with .8 seconds left and possession of the ball and lost.

Penn State lost to Purdue this year after being up 2-0 and had something like a 21-13 lead too. Idk how many match points they had but it was a pretty awful loss, especially since they likely get a 6 or 7 seed in the tournament if they won but instead had to face Stanford.
