Starr isn't a middle. She plays on the pin in club and will likely play on a pin in college. Los Al used her to block there often because they had no one else to put there. Yes, of course you're right. I knew that, I don't know why I fixated on middle. I need more coffee. Starr is playing up on Joys 18’s team this year, I’ll get to check her out this weekend! She’s a STUD!! Also no need to worry about keeping Mia at LBSU after Josh’s graduation. She was raised in Long Beach with a huge tight knit family. The biggest factor in her choosing BEACH is the chance to play in front of her family weekly.

Harward should be penciled in to go back to her original libero position. That means Hoff will play along side her as a DS for her freshman year and then take over the libero position. Next year is a critical year for Joy and her program. She needs to show significant progress and the establishment of a winning program. I sure hope she brings in a quality transfer setter because I do not see Aigner-Swesy or freshman Chavira being the answer if winning now is a priority. The following year Tuniga comes in and she should be a quality 4 year starting setter. I believe that with both Harward and Hoff in the back row that from a talent perspective LBSU will be solid defensively. The real issue will be if the coaching staff can finally have the team play as a cohesive unit. The program has all the pieces to be a top defensive pass and receive team. Joy just needs to keep the ship afloat until Tuaniga gets in. This '19 class is solid, then if she can nab a middle with Tuaniga, you start seeing the pieces to a really good team. LBSU has already received a verbal from a good middle in Tuniga's 2019 class, Meauna Booth. She plays for KC Power and is an athletic middle that is fast to the pins.

In 2020, the Beach will have one of the best setters in the country in Tuaniga and one of the best liberos. I hope that Joy can bring in some Top 100 middles, and pin hitters, in the coming years.

You have to include 2021 Starr Williams in your mix of elite talent at the Beach. Starr will be one of the top pin hitting recruits in her class. Joy is stacking some top talent in each recruiting class which should bring smiles to all us long time LBSU fans.

Of course she can coach. Only time will tell to what level she can bring her program but she is off to a good start on the recruiting front. She started late and with a cupboard pretty bare of talent. This upcoming season the majority of the teams players will be hers and that is why this is a very important season to show growth in the program. I just wish she would bring in a quality transfer setter to help speed up the process.

2020? 2021?? yikes, seriously?!
2 0 1 9. Harward and Xue are seniors. it's time to make hay NOW, and see some development NOW, and beat top 100 teams regularly
for pete's sake, this will be year 3. 20 wins baby, coach these women to 20 wins!!
2021? are you flipping kidding me people want to be 'angling' and having a couple more seasons like the last 2 for 2 more years?

Well two years ago, pretty much the entire team got injured. Just a very unlucky year. Last year was just a cluster of talent with mixed results. Next years team on paper doesn’t look elite, so even the top coach can only get so far. The point every one is making is that the Beach are on the up n up. Better days are coming. Hopefully this year but if not, potentially the best setter in the country arrives in 2020.

I do not think 20 wins is unreasonable. That would only mean two more wins in non conference and two more in conference. I would add that the team should not finish lower than third and preferable in the top two, especially if Joy can bring in a quality transfer setter. The following year I expect the program to realistically compete for a conference championship. You have to factor in that I am a homer when it comes to predictions.

What was it, 1998 when the the Beach won their last title? I seem to recall they beat RED like a rented mule in the '97 tournament also. I guess that was near the end of the glory days when LBSU was one of the most feared teams in the Women's game. After winning the title in 1998, the Beach was still right there in the mix, with Final Four appearances in 1999 and 2001.

The Beach would have won it all in ‘01, but Logan Tom and Nnamani combined for 15 kills per set. Incredible. Haneef had a great night but couldn’t get the ball enough.
