I can't understand why SUU (SUE YOU) doesn't have a law school ... just seems like a natural fit.

LBSU was thin in middle and hopefully Canez can help with her experience.
MB Norvell has been playing with her national team and is playing at a high level with no ill effects from her ACL injury. Team will need her to play at a high level next season so they can compete for a conference championship.
Still need to sign another setter.

They need some consistency at that position.

I would like to see a 5th year setter come in and hold the fort for another year until Tuaniga arrives.
Next season could be a very good year if the team gets good setting. They have good young hitters, experienced middles, and should have great defense with Harward and Hoff in the back. Setting is the big question mark and hopefully that will be addressed.

Canez has good size--6'2--and appears to attack well off of one leg:

What was it, 1998 when the the Beach won their last title? I seem to recall they beat RED like a rented mule in the '97 tournament also. I guess that was near the end of the glory days when LBSU was one of the most feared teams in the Women's game. After winning the title in 1998, the Beach was still right there in the mix, with Final Four appearances in 1999 and 2001. I agree! Think after Hochevar’s departure, LBSU started their slide. Of course being a witness to their glory days, waiting for them to make noise again nationally!

I was a huge fan of LBSU up until Hochevar's graduation. She was one of my favorite players. But you're right, that was the start of the decline for the LBSU program. Still hoping they can return to a Top 50 level at least. LBSU is my second favorite team.

I don't get why The Beach continues to recruit lower division hs players that are "maybe's" when according to the transfer portal there are currently young proven D1 talented players available. Tuaniga coming in is a special player, but she is going to need some help. It's been a long time now since LBSU has been a factor. Recruiting and retaining seems to be a problem. Nothing against Giambi haven't seen her play therefore no opinion this is just an observation in general about the current state of the program. Looking for a reason to frequent the Pyramid again.

LBSU has a top freshman libero, Nicole Huff, this upcoming season so hopefully Giambi can push her for starter minutes or compliment her as a defensive specialist when she arrives on campus.
As you pointed out, the program has coming in one of top 2020 setter recruits in Tuaniga and in 2021 the program brings in one of the top outside hitters in Starr Williams, among others. These players will compliment the good base of players already in the program (ex. freshman Allison Martinez and Kash Williams). Joy is bringing in top players but it takes a little time to stack them up. Future looks bright at the Beach.

How is Giambi a lower division HS player? If you've never seen her play, how do you have any idea her talent level? Also, Long Beach and Brian did a good job at building up that family atmosphere where the players were all close even to this day. Giambi comes from a family where her uncle is a very famous 49er, that's a good thing to bring to the program.
