Giambi comes from a family where her uncle is a very famous 49er, that's a good thing to bring to the program. Was famous then became infamous.

"... Also, Long Beach and Brian did a good job at building up that family atmosphere where the players were all close even to this day. Giambi comes from a family where her uncle is a very famous 49er, that's a good thing to bring to the program." Joy's program is very good at providing a family and team environment and has actually kicked it up a notch from Brian's era. Joy, Matt and the other coaches are good people and their players and the recruits coming in see that. The program now must move into the next phase and start winning a bunch of matches and rapidly move up the RPI ladder. The writing is now on the wall for that to happen.

As an example of the culture Joy is building around the program check out the flyer for the Beach Women's Volleyball Alumni Weekend. A lot of good bonding experiences plus going to other LBSU sporting events. This includes the indoor banquet and kick off to the beach season. Hope this is a big success.

I don't get why The Beach continues to recruit lower division hs players that are "maybe's" when according to the transfer portal there are currently young proven D1 talented players available. Tuaniga coming in is a special player, but she is going to need some help. It's been a long time now since LBSU has been a factor. Recruiting and retaining seems to be a problem. Nothing against Giambi haven't seen her play therefore no opinion this is just an observation in general about the current state of the program. Looking for a reason to frequent the Pyramid again. How is Giambi a lower division HS player? If you've never seen her play, how do you have any idea her talent level? Also, Long Beach and Brian did a good job at building up that family atmosphere where the players were all close even to this day. Giambi comes from a family where her uncle is a very famous 49er, that's a good thing to bring to the program. Just doing a little research on Giambi according to MaxPreps Upland HS was ranked 1852 nationally and 195 in California. They went 18-17 for the year with losses to Marymount, Newport Harbor, St. Margaret's, Xavier Prep, and Village Christian all reputable programs. But, otherwise a pretty weak schedule compared to most OC and LB programs. To my point I know there are currently D1 players that are proven and available in the Transfer Portal that were playing recognized top hs programs a year ago. It seems to me that LBSU could attract the best available, but somehow they are missing these players. Like I said just an observation.

LB always carries a number of walk-ons for the indoor and beach programs her signing specifically isn't something 'negative', it's a really good thing! setter, MB, OH signings, now that's where LB is likely focusing it's schollies on

The 2019 LBSU roster is coming together. Its obviously too early to predict who will start. However, the following players could see substantial playing time this fall:
OH-1--Kashauna Williams OH-2--Allison Martinez/Avery Nelson MB-1--Yizhi Xue MB-2--Kjersti Norveel/Miranda Canez OPP/RS-Ioanna Georgatzi/Katie Kennedy Setter-Carly Aigner Swesey/Eliana Chavira Libero-Hailey Harward DS--Nicole Hoff

If Kash Williams improves her arm swing I would like to see her get many more attempts so the left makes sense; however, she has a nice block so the coaches may keeper her on the right.
I think it is a toss up who will be the two starting middles. Xue has done it in the past, KJ has improved a bunch, and I hear Canez is looking good in individuals. I see these three pushing each other for minutes so this is a good thing.
The team will surely miss Kirst's blocking and Spriggs consistent fire power but next year's team should be significantly improved, especially if another setter comes in and pushes for playing time.

Will Williams remain eligible? That's the REAL question.
What's with all the hype on LBS? At best they have a ton of mid-majors coming in... and people are now talking about a return to the glory days? Mmmm, O.K.
Cal Poly/Hawai'i win it again in 2019. LBS stays home from the tourney, again.

According to Rich Kern, LBSU picked up another 2020 verbal from Jaylen Jordan. She is a very athletic 6 rotation outside hitter. Joy will be bringing in some nice athletic players in the near future. Jordan along with Mia Tuaniga, Meauna Booth and Starr Williams are joining other nice players that are already at the Beach or coming in next season.

Father played in the NFL. Mother was an Olympian. Grandfather was a pretty good decathlete. Won gold and silver medals at the Olympics.

As with Hawaii, this coming season should be the first full recruiting class that Joy brings in. So, 1) lets see how this year's seniors have developed from soph to senior year under Joy and 2) the development of her own recruiting class in the next two years. You can hype any player up, but that don't mean anything until they play. Hawaii knows this all to well with transfer hype around Gaskin and pre-season 2018 Big West FOY was Castaneda.

I heard Jaylen Rose, of Fab 5 fame, say his mother who named him just made up the name Jaylen herself, so Rose takes all the credit for popularizing his unique name Jaylen.
I guess now Jaylen is being used as a female name.
