Tapping into the group hive mind: what kind of advice do you give unsigned seniors?
Should they give up seeking scholarship opportunities and try to find a walk on position? Or should they adjust their goals and look for smaller schools/less competitive programs where they could still get some scholarship money?
Apologies to anyone who is also a member of the VCT group on FB--I posted the same questions there...

Is volleyball the only part of college she cares about?

Apologies to anyone who is also a member of the VCT group on FB--I posted the same questions there... 1) VERY FEW incoming Frosh get a full-ride; therefore, counsel them to get their academic priorities - and therefore, "fit" - in order; 2) Nothin' wrong with being a walk on!

What are the priorities? Is education #1 or is it volleyball? What field of study or studies? What about economic background? Can the candidate afford to walk-on? Work through these questions and maybe there will be light at the end of the tunnel.

Adding to this - and, to my prior post just above it - ANY SA's top priority Should Be getting a four year, A-1 education. How many get a full scholarship in DI: let alone DII schools? How many D1 athletes go on to play for the USWNT and/or overseas leagues: maybe <.05-.1%? Seriously! Seek out any other financial (academic) aid if needed.

I have a quick question related to the subject.
what are the chances a kid can get offers if they only play highschool and not club because club is too expensive?
Or is club the way to go?
On that same token, are there any top players within the last 10 years or so who did not play club?

They do really well as they usually are playing 2 or 3 sports instead of just volleyball. As for full rides being rare for freshman, that is a D1 thing. There are 400 or more jucos out there paying for pretty much everything and I bet most still have 1-2 schollies for 2019 still available. There is more to volleyball than D1 stuff.

In your opinion is she looking at unrealistic schools and programs? What do you think is keeping her from the scholarship? An honest conversation is best, she may be being told an earful that just isn't true by others.

On that same token, are there any top players within the last 10 years or so who did not play club? Shelby Dalton who played at the University of Utah never played club. She had tons of raw power and potential, so Beth knew she could become a top player regardless of club experience.
