Just did some calculations. Yes, Gibb/Crabb and Dalcena will be tied in entry points. But Gibb/Crabb yet to win a medal.

Horrible bracket for Nick/Phil. Likely they have to play Dutch then Evandro/Bruno just to make the semi. Thank god the other teams knocked both them out. If only they played better in the gold medal match. Onto the next. And guest2 you called it correctly. 2nd place for the boys.

I wonder if Brazil will be able to be competitive at the very top level this year. Alison is declining quickly, Saymon/Guto don't seem to be there yet, Ricardo is a legend, but not world class anymore, Pedro/Vitor Felipe don't have elite talent imho. As for Evandro/Bruno it probably depends on Bruno being able to play like he used to.

Great listen from Chaim: - For this AVP season, he’ll continue playing with Tim Bomgren. They don’t train together as Tim lives in Minnesota. They just play when the time comes. - He thought about changing federation midway through the 2017 season with Ben Saxton. (They’re still good buddies though.) They were not getting results they wanted and thought they were capable of. Before World Champs, he already talked it out and they played loose, changing sides and back when necessary. They beat Alison/Bruno but finished 5th with a loss to Evandro/Andre. He thought the partnership had ended but then they got a call that they’ve received the wildcard for World Tour Finals in Hamburg. There, they lost to Phil and Nick, despite up a set and 19-15 in the second. - He saw more sponsors and playing opportunities in the US. He didn’t like how in Canada, all the medical, nutritional, and physio support were based in Canada and as they trained in California most of the time, it just wasn’t practical to fly back to Canada to make use of the services during the season. He wanted to be able to play as long as he can, as he can see in John Hyden and Dalcena. - He’s eligible to play for the USA starting Oct. 12th, 2019. He’ll start from the lower star events to build up points. He will also select a partner then. His goal is to make a run for Paris 2024. - He does train with the other USAV Beach athletes in California. They have two training sessions a week where they all work on specific things. - His four picks for podium in Tokyo: the Norwegian boys, Krasilnikov/Stoyanovskiy, Bruno/Evandro, Nick/Phil. - As impressive as the run Norwegians had, winning 5 straight tournaments, he doubts they can make one of those runs again. - If there was one person he’ll like to play with, it’s Phil (he plays video games with Phil too). - His dream team combination would be Russia’s Krasilnikov and Brazil’s Evandro.

I know Losiak and Kantor lost to Dalcena and that sometimes their offense can look rough. But when it’s on it’s deadly. That is so much fun to watch. Pass to left pin and can either option or set middle or shoot to other pin. Their tempo is so much fun to watch.

Set on one side, Nick approaches from other side to make the kill?

They were setting with the wind instead of against it. Phil, for as good as his hands are, didn’t appear overly comfortable backsetting and was twisting at the end back towards his setting target. Easy recipe for a double if you don’t have world class mitts like he does.

One more thought. Those Qatarians love their damn motorbikes don’t they? They were revving the hell out of those things up and down that strip the whole week.

I was definitely surprised that Phil and Nick lost the finals but a good finish for them nevertheless. They could have easily lost the semi finals imo. Nick hardly got any clean sideouts in that game but the Spanish guys were either unable to control their digs or put the ball away after the dig. Even though Nick seemed to play better than last season I still can't see them beating teams like Brouwer/Meeuwsen or Mol/Sorum.
The game against Kantor/Losiak was fun to watch. You never know what these guys are going to do next. Sometimes it looked like Phil didn't know what was going on either lol... However towards the end of the game they made a lot of mistakes. That's the price you pay for that kind of error-prone offense. However I hope they keep playing like that because it's super interesting to watch.

the motorbikes (or was it jet-skis??) were definitely annoying. Overall I don't like Doha as a tournament venue. I don't think the people there care about volleyball at all.

Imagine if rednecks on Florida's Gulf Coast were wealthy Muslims and you are on the right track in terms of non-alcohol recreational affinities.
