Does she have dual citizenship? I could have sworn I saw her at the USWNT tryouts a couple of years ago.

Citizenship is rarely the issue for athletes (and the Philippines has blood citizenship anyways so it doesn't really matter where she was born) but governing body restrictions against federation-hopping. She's never officially made a roster for USAV, so that makes it easier for her.

Interesting side note, the Philippines played an influential role in the development of volleyball, assisting in the creation of the 3 hit limit and the set and spike action so familiar to us today. They may not be a strong volleyball power today, but their contribution to the creation of the modern game should be highlighted.
As for Mau, sure, if she is good enough, she can play on the Philippines NT. I got no issue with that.

Good that she's healthy again. She badly injured her shoulder after a quite promising start in France for Nantes VB as far as i remember.

I know there are tons of players with dual citizenship who elect to play for countries you never expect. This Mau news reminded me -- I don't know why -- of a basketball player in the 1980s. He was a great player in college and, for some reason or other, failed to make the USA national team. So, another country snatched him up to play on their national team and he and that team put a scare on Team USA. I want to believe the player was Keith Lee of Memphis State and his "adopted" country was Puerto Rico. That's my memory. But when I looked up Keith Lee, it doesn't mention anything about his involvement with the Puerto Rican national team (or any other national team) nor does it mention it scaring the bejeezus out of Team USA. It must've been some other player and some other country. Anyone remember?

He played for Marquette in 1974-78, where he won player of the year and helped Marquette to the national championship. He played for the Puerto Rican national team in the 1976 Olympics. He scored 35 pts. on 15-18 shooting against the U.S. and his team lost by only 1 point. I think that’s who you’re thinking of?
