I was hoping someone else would ask, but the curiosity is killing me.

Bnice2refs, Thank you for clarifying my statement. I am not close enough nor feel comfortable enough sharing things I have heard about their program over the years. I certainly was not hinting at "other stuff" at all. Sorry if anyone interpreted it that way. I was not my intention. Like you just stated, something happens in that gym all the time. I love the HBO idea too. Sorry to disagree, but what they did in 2017 was the most ridiculous coaching job ever. For that matter, one could argue in any sport in PA. In 2016, every starter graduated and was an all time great team! I think they didn't loss a set for 2 years. In 2017, they replaced everyone and went twenty something and 2 and win their 4th straight AA State Championship with relative ease! I'm pretty sure their only 2 loses were to the AAA State Champ Central York ( I loved Luckenbaugh) . I said there was no way for them to repeat and I ate my words. Also, it's not like they plucked that setter Richards out of the sky last year. I saw him play in 7th grade and knew he would be great. Definitely agree with you on Hughes though. I had know idea who he even was, until the Bobcat. That kid was fun to watch. I also agree, all those state titles would have better helped grow the game in PA, if they were scattered throughout the state. When a school wins a Title, I think it energies younger prospective athletes and results in higher turnout and participation for years after the win.
FYI- A few people have PM'ed me about how come so and so team wasn't included. Folks. These are who I think the contends are. I think NA is way out in front of the rest of the pack in western PA and is the only team capable of winning AAA from here. Please feel free to post your list or tell me I'm way off base. I promise I can take it. I have been happily married for 45 years. I get told that all the time!

Are the facilities better at the BANE or at Boys East Coast Championship?

I have been reading this site for years. I have only started to post on HS stuff, because I am no longer officiating the HS game. I never wanted to say something and have someone think a ref has a preconceived bias one way or the other. With that been said, I have seen what starts out as great thread get high-jacked and turn into a skunk pissing contest. I sincerely hope this does not happen to this one. I strongly agree with pavolleypro. PA has great and rising talent pool. Please lets not let that happen here. I think a little criticism of HS players is fine, as long as it is phrased in a nice manner. Sometimes, it is helpful to players who are striving to become really good, to hear things they could work on. Lets face it, parents and club coaches are not always giving players the most honest feedback. With that being said, lets please refrain from using words like awful. Especially for jr. high teams. There are many other ways to phrase things. Let's all commit to maintaining a proper decorum, so this thread continues. Please remember. B nice 2 refs:)

Let the practices begin! I gave my 9th grade grandson a ride to school today. The first words out of his mouth were he was so excited for practice today, he couldn't sleep. I love it. Now for a little player talk. Especially for those players who may not be on a strong team, but also can ball!

Having graduated 2 years ago, I still love following PA High School Volleyball. Here are my dark horses for making a possible deep run at states for AAA if the cards fall their way:
1) Warwick Warriors Key Players: Senior OH Chad Meeder, Senior OH Noah Miller, Senior OP Foster Lobb
Outlook: This is a team that started as a young core, and now find themselves to be one of the more experienced teams in the state. They snuck in as the 5th seed from District 3 last year and return all of their starting lineup from the end of last year. While not the tallest team, they can annoy teams with their great defense, and how scrappy they are. Their offense is definitely no joke either, with three quality hitters in Meeder, Miller, and Lobb. If their defense can improve even more off of last year, and the setting gets more consistent for this club, watch out.
2) Penn Manor Comets Key Players: Senior OH Dylan Zimmerman, Senior OP Matt Schaefer, Senior Lib Hunter Enck
Outlook: After 3 consecutive years of making a run in the state tournament with quality teams and players (2015-2017), Penn Manor had a down year last year, which is understandable after graduating 7 Senior starters. However, after now gaining key experience, Penn Manor may be ready to rise to the top. The biggest issue for the Comets is probably going to boil down to two things: defense and setter play. Although they have two big hitters at the pins in Zimmerman and Schaeffer, both seemed to be liabilities at the defensive end last year. Enck is a heck of a libero, but he needs help from the rest of the team. For setter play, the Comets will have a new setter at the helm, as their setter last year graduated. If the new setter can learn the offense quickly this team can make some noise, but it may take awhile for the Comets to gel. Expect them to come out slow, then pick up some steam later in the season.
3) Exeter Eagles Key Players: Junior Setter Reese Ganter, Senior OP Justin Strauss
Outlook: After a period of time where Exeter has not made much noise, I believe this is the year that the Eagles will make it back to the state tournament. Their two best players, Ganter and Strauss, have both gained valuable experience in club season by playing with Yorktowne on their top 18s team. They also return a lot of their team from last year. If other hitters make similar improvements as Strauss, there is no doubt in my mind that Exeter is making it back to the state tournament at the very least.
There are certainly other teams that could also be dark horses this year, but as I played for and live in the District 3 area, that is where I have the most knowledge. Also just as another side note from PaVolleyPro's post on Hempfield, another key player along with De La Torre is definitely Junior OH Adam Brossman. He played JV last year, but I saw Hempfield's club team at a club tournament I went to and he was definitely the go to. Overall, this seems to be shaping up for an incredible year in PIAA Boys Volleyball.

I sincerely hope a few teams "have the cards fall right" too. It will be great to see some new blood rise up and beat the usually suspects this year.

Does anyone know what players were selected to compete for PA at HP in July? Just curious.

I have heard rumblings today of a exceptional player from District 3 who suffered a broken ankle. Can anyone confirm this? This would be a very unfortunate start and a devastating blow to a contender.

We heard the rumor too Friday night. I can guarantee you it is "Fake News". He was at CD today and I hate to admit it, but he is even better and in mid-season form. Let's put this to rest right away please.
