School Conf Overall PENN STATE 3-0 6-6 PRINCETON 3-0 5-7 GEORGE MASON 3-1 9-3 HARVARD 2-1 2-7 SAINT FRANCIS 1-2 7-6 NJIT 0-1 4-5 SACRED HEART 0-3 1-7 CHARLESTON 0-4 3-9 www.eivavolleyball.com/landing/indexWell after 2 weekends PSU and Princeton are atop the EIVA. Princeton controlled GMU pretty easily. 21-25,25-21,25-19,25-20 Harvard rebounded well visting St. Francis 17-25, 25-19, 25-21, 25-24 PSU struggled but defeated a 1-7 Sacred Heart team. 25-22, 25-21, 25-23 Sacred Heart .159 and PSU .192 for the match. PSU should be getting more than 10 swings out of the middle against a team like this. Donorovich is hitting .440 on the year and that puts him in the top 20 list with guys like Keil, Meerstein, Lipsitz, Holt, Kowal, Mills etc. If we can find a offensive M2 that would be ideal BUT our serve receivers have to stop playing it safe with their passing imo. Does Bantle have the range to take more balls? It was obvious that was the problem the past couple years. If you are hitting .244 on the season it would be best to get it to your highest percentage hitters more.

Akbar, You are right on the money with PSU. They need to start working inside out. Hopefully they can stay health and improve, being that everyone has thrown dirt on them for this year.

Princeton is such an enigma to me. They can take down established teams each year and then lose to teams that are rebuilding in the same breath. I can't figure out what will make them a more dominating team, especially with players like Huhmann, Kelly, Dixon, and Luck rach having standout matches.

You mean to tell us that the 2nd best middle in the EIVA plays at either Sacred Heart or Charleston??? Come on now... Feel free to offer up better ones. Princeton revolves around 3 pins and Huhman runs middle a little. St. Francis and GMU middles dont have the stats. Harvard cant figure out who should play middle. PSU frosh middle isnt an offensive threat unless its a perfect pass and runs only one option. The NJIT middle is actually pretty good.....so have at it. To the victors WILL go the spoils as always but at this point the stats bear out. * The plan is come May this list is filled with Nittany Lions who are just about ready to pounce. 😉

The stats are what they are but when you watch all the teams play and how they use each guy, I think you get a different perspective. If I had to guess how Speraw (USMNT) or a pro coach views these middles, I'd say they rank them something like this:
Donorovich Reese Dow Bloomquist Payne Berger Roberts Stewart
The stats are what they are because of how they are used by their teams but I put more weight in the eye test.
Kills/Set in EIVA play: Donorovich - 2.13 Stewart - 2.03 Bloomquist - 1.93 Reese - 1.71 Roberts - 1.66 Dow - 1.60 Berger - 1.49
Hitting%/Set in EIVA play: Donorovich (.475) Reese (.467) Bloomquist (4.14) Payne (4.12) Berger (.361) De Diego Garcia (.360) Dow (.340) Roberts (.327)
Blocks/Set in EIVA play: 1st - Berger 2nd - Carver 3rd - Herc 5th - Tuman 6th - Payne 7th - Chatterton 8th - Reese 9th - Dow 10th - De Diego Garcia 12th - Roberts 12th - Stewart 15th - Donorovich 18th - Bloomquist
Points/Set in EIVA: Donorovich - 3.04 Stewart - 2.96 Berger - 2.54 Reese - 2.5 Bloomquist - 2.5 Dow - 2.4 Roberts - 2.25 Payne - 2.0

Nah....you can't use 7,8 or 9 matches as the measure.
The eye test comes later.

More than welcome to have your opinion, but you're eye test really tells you that Roberts and Bloomquist would start at PSU, GMU, Harvard, Princeton, and NJIT? Being respectful of their numbers. And yes , in this unique year, they would push to start on a number of those teams.
