Seeds and schedules are starting to roll in. Here are the 18-Open teams. 25 of the 28 teams competed in the Chicago BWVC, and finishing place is listed in second column...
1 1 Ultimate B18 Gold (GL)
2 5 HPSTL B18 Royal (GW)
3 6 Uno Boys18 Elite (GL)
4 7 MVC 18-Phil (BG)
5 10 SPVB B18 Elite (GL)
6 USA 2 CUVC 18 Boys Onslaught (CR)
7 37 Vanguard 18 Gold Webb (OV)
8 7 Louisville Fury 18 Smack (PR)
9 17 AJV 18 Mizuno Boys (LS)
10 13 Hitmen 18-Elite (GL)
11 13 Adversity 18 Adidas (GL)
12 USA 1 SPVB B18 Lenny (GL)
13 26 Pipeline 18Nike (GL)
14 27 MVC 18-Brad (BG)
15 19 Cinci Attack 18 Black (OV)
16 32 Club 1 B 18 Skronkstrong (GL)
17 36 18 Green boys (OV)
18 USA 7 Hitmen 18-Black (GL)
19 USA 5 Southport B18-Blue (BG)
20 25 D1 Elite 18 Green (GL)
21 USA 5 Ultimate B18 Blue (GL)
22 dnp HVA 18 PERFORMANCE (LS)
23 38 FVP B18-Blue (BG)
24 39 CVA 18 Purple (OV)
25 dnp Kaizen Boys 18s Black (OK)
26 dnp Illinois Heat B18 Red (GW)
27 43 Epic B18-Black (BG)
28 47 Vortex18 Storm (GL)
Chicago Bounce Red dropped down to the USA division last week leaving only 28 teams and a maximum trickle-down to 12th place. One more team and the trickle down could have gone to 14th place. This might be significant as nine teams already have an Open bid and they are the top nine seeds. Maybe not all five bids are awarded?
Seems unlikely, but 16 teams will make Group 1 on Saturday and looking at the Friday pools it's hard to see which of those nine bid holders will not make it at least that far.

The trickle down is going to be interesting for this one, as there are 43 teams (all divisions) that already have bids, and I'm betting the limitations are going to kick in for at least one division.
By Division:
Division Teams w/ Bids Max Bids Lowest Bid Position Finish for Trickledown 14 Open 4 3 8th 15 Open 8 3 14th
16 Open 8 5 10th 16 USA 3 4 18th
17 Open 7 5 8th 17 USA 0 4
18 Open 11 5 12th 18 USA 2 4 16th
18 Open Teams with Bids:
Seed Team Team Code 1 Ultimate B18 Gold (GL) (1) mj8ultim1gl 2 HPSTL B18 Royal (GW) (2) mj8hpstl1gw 3 Uno Boys18 Elite (GL) (3) mj8unovb1gl 4 MVC 18-Phil (BG) (4) mj8nsmvc1bg 6 CUVC 18 Boys Onslaught (CR) (6) mj8carun1cr 8 Louisville Fury Smack (PR) (8) mj8lfury1pr 9 AJV 18 Mizuno Boys (LS) (9) mj8ajvba1ls 12 SPVB B18 Lenny (GL) (12) mj8spvbc2gl 19 Southport B18-Blue (BG) (19) mj8sport1bg 21 Ultimate B18 Blue (GL) (21) mj8ultim2gl 22 HVA 18 PERFORMANCE (LS) (22) mj8hvavb1ls
(I'm not cross-checking these for USA v. Open - the team simply has a bid to JN)
EDIT:
Interesting to me: the number of teams playing USA v. Open for 16's and 18's
Division Teams Playing
14 Open 22 15 Open 34
16 Open 24 16 USA 60
17 Open 22 17 USA 29
18 Open 28 18 USA 59

Yup, those are the two big 60-ish team divisions. Can't be easy seeding that many teams.

The team codes listed on the USAV Qualified Team List ("QTL") are different, which is how I missed it (the QTL has a lot of typos / data consistency issues, so this is not surprising, really.) SPVB B18 Elite (5 seed) is listed as MJ8SP UBC1GL on the QTL, but is mj8sp vbc1gl on AES/LaFata Vanguard 18 Gold Webb is listed as MJ8VAN BC1OV on the QTL, but is mj8van vc1ov on AES/LaFata

Interesting to see Uno seeded ahead of MVC and both SPVBs in 18 Open. Good for them, they've definitely earned it.

Trickle down was certainly important for some teams acquiring bids this weekend in 18 open! Interesting to see Ultimate 18 gold lose to Ajv in 3 in the championship. Ultimate had handled Ajv in two sets the day before...

Ultimate had handled Ajv in two sets the day before... These should be the teams that were bid eligible in 18's, but I have no info as to whether they accepted or not: Finish Team Team Code 5th Adversity 18 Adidas (GL) (6) mj8adver1gl 9th Pipeline 18Nike (GL) (9) mj8pipeb1gl 10th MVC 18-Brad (BG) (10) mj8nsmvc2bg 11th Hitmen 18-Elite (GL) (11) mj8hitmn1gl Edit: SPVB B18 Lenny had a USA Bid from Chicago, so it could have accepted an Open Bid, if all 5 are awardable.

Ultimate had handled Ajv in two sets the day before... I watched a lot of these matches. Ultimate was just dominant, but Vanguard played them even (?) and AJV took them down in final as you noted. After a bumpy day 1, Adversity looked like they belonged and I didn't expect that. CUVC was really fun to watch if only to see if #4 was going to crack the floor of the court. MVC Phil was surgical and seemed to be running a technical clinic (their only losses came at 15-13 in the 3rd sets). Could go on, lots of parity and who knows who has a shot to break into Gold at Nationals. Fun to watch!

Congrats to AJV. That is a big win. AJV sure does travel. SoCal, Chicago, St. Louis. Good for them. Adversity can play. The question for them is can they be consistent over a three set match. They have moments of top play. If they are on they are tough.

For what it's worth...Ultimate also beat AJV in 2, and HPSTL and CUVC in 2 as well. Look, AJV, Ultimate, MVC, HPSTL, SPVB and the other top 10 or so finishers in this tournament can play. Fun to watch so many talented players compete at a high level. Hats off to AJV for sure!!

When checking to see if results were posted yet with bids on the Gateway site I noticed they announced the dates for next year. 2 weeks earlier Sat Feb 8-Monday Feb 10th. Being 2 weeks earlier would that open the door for west coast teams to come chase a bid if needed? This weekend would also allow East Coast teams to return if they desired. Would be the only bid event that weekend.
Interesting to see when other dates are announced.
