I replayed UCI games this season and Hawaii has a huge chance to take both games from UCI.
But....
Hawaii needs to keep its serving hot and quiet the 7th man early and often. Both teams have the hitters to get the job done. But Hawaii needs to shut that crowd noise down from the get go or I can see the energy of the crowd be that extra lift for them.
Exciting matches on the horizon.
You want to be the best then you have to beat the best at their place, Hawaii!
I believe! Go Bows!

Hawaii this season has obliterated every single opponent in the first set. Then it's been super close in the 2nd. They eventually find the groove again and give it to them in the 3rd set.
I say the first set for Hawaii will tell the story from the outset for UH. Yes, people will say it's too early to judge a game. But watching both teams multiple times this year, I'm pretty comfortable in saying this imo.

From what I've seen of UCI this season I haven't been impressed at all. I'd be surprised if they take more than 1 set off UH all weekend. UCI lost to both Stanford and USC (almost twice to USC), both of who UH demolished. UCI lost 3 sets over 2 games to UCSD for goodness sake. Calling it now - night 1 UH in 4, night 2 UH sweep.

Boy, do I agree with this. I don't think UCI is as good as everyone makes them out to be and I also believe that Hawaii is head and shoulders better than UCI. I feel as if Hawaii's weak schedule so far has lead people to believe they aren't as good as they actually are. Hawaii Sweeps at least once, wouldn't be surprised if its twice. Of course, this could be totally wrong but who knows. Might as well throw out a meaningless post with an outrageous prediction

They can struggle against weaker teams (loss to IPFW last year) but also play elite volleyball against good teams (second match against Hawaii last year)

The best way to shut down the crowd is to play lethargic volleyball imo. Dont make great plays Hawaii or you'll fire up the 7th man and lose.

Please tell me this will have a live feed? I'm in Tokyo on the 1st, but desperately want to watch this. Agreed, this could be epic. Yes, all UCI (and I think most big west teams) home matches are streamed on bigwest.org The Big West has been really good about it this year. My guess is the ESPN3 crew will come in and BW will have rights to the stream. These pair of matches is going to set the tone for the Big West because there are so many questions (that have already been mentioned in this thread). I know Hawaii is good-- even with the light schedule they've played. SVT, Gasman, Solbrig and Worsley are consistent performers, and I like what Cowell throws into the mix. I think Rado is the tipping point. If he plays well, Hawaii is an intimidating team. UCI has had 2 bad losses-- but I attribute them to the amount of matches on the road they played. To say that travel didn't impact their performances against Stanford and USC is ignorant-- they had a ROAD match every 3 days in January. That WILL take it's toll even if you're a travelling professional. UCI has also had some unexpected 5-setters, but through them all, they're 3-0 (Loyola, USC, UCSD). Granted, those teams aren't Hawaii-quality but this team can turn it on. Hawaii leads the nations in Kills Per Set, Hitting Percentage, Blocks Per Set and Opponent Hitting Percentage. They also sit #2 in Aces and Assists-- and I think we all know these are inflated due to their opponents. They can make a big statement in those matches at Irvine. Being an Irvine guy, I know the guys are good but we haven't seen it on display yet. Schneidmiller, Stadick and Dante have grabbed the reigns, but doing the dirty work have been Koubi & Parker (L). Wilmot is gaining confidence with his starting role on the court and the Opp position has a few options that can change the 'Eaters look between Apfelbach and Nsakanda. I wouldn't be shocked to see Bowles thrown into that mix also. Looking forward to having Hawaii in the Bren-- great VB and great energetic fans all-around! Come down if you can!
