www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2019-03-12/coaches-accused-by-u-s-in-scheme-over-college-entrance-examsParents, coaches and test administrators were charged Tuesday in a sweeping criminal conspiracy that sought to help high-school age students win admission to elite universities including Yale, Stanford, UCLA and Georgetown. The scheme includes allegations that parents and others paid bribes to win admission for the children, bribed others to help students cheat on college-entrance exams, and paid coaches and administrators to designate applicants as athletic recruits. The charges were unsealed Tuesday by prosecutors in Boston. Dozens of people stand accused including coaches and parents. Among those accused are celebrities Felicity Huffman and Lori Loughlin, who allegedly paid bribes to win admission for their children. Click here to read the FBI agent’s affidavit and other documents Among those facing charges are the women’s former soccer coach at Yale, the senior associate athletic director at the University of Southern California, and the women’s volleyball coach at Wake Forest University. The charges come two weeks before Ivy League schools and other top universities are scheduled to announce admissions for the class of 2023. www.justice.gov/usao-ma/investigations-college-admissions-and-testing-bribery-scheme

I was just listening to a story on the radio about this and was a little confused. All those schools let in under-qualified students if they will pay or otherwise use their influence on behalf of the school. Is the issue here that the schools in question weren't getting their proper cut? I dare say the issue here is that folks who have a problem with these schools trying to diversify their student body by way of admitting poor but well qualified kids, don't have any qualms about cheating and bribery to pave the way for their academically deficient and spoilt brats!

There are some very rich people on this list besides the two actresses. CEOs, business owners, and on and on.

Sports Coaches and Administrators in Yale, UCLA, Wake, USC, Georgetown and the Stanford Sailing Coach! oh oh my.
I would imagine this scheme runs way deeper than just 4 dozen people.

Donna Heinel, meet Kharma. Sincerely, Mick Haley. Maybe Donna was on Mick's case all the time about athletes on his team because she wanted Mick to burn one or two of his scholarships so she could get a few hundred thousand in her personal account? Kind of makes Mick's lawsuit more interesting, would love to sit through the depositions of the ADs. Mick's lawyers are going to have some fun questions. How about the $1.2 Million paid to get into Yale?

Impossible. Those wealthy celebrities are all about making things fair for the downtrodden. They said so while throwing themselves an elaborate party at the Oscars.

I am shocked, Shocked!! to find out that well-heeled, and well-connected people are trying to game the system to get their kids into elite schools. This is the same reaction I had to finding out that *gasp* shoe companies are coordinating with basketball coaches to provide $$$ to prospective players. What's next? Are we going to suddenly discover boosters in the SEC give $1,000 handshakes to football players? Or, Kentucky basketball players?

The part that is not being discussed yet, but could be a big point of contention I think, is that these parents were getting their kids into school by faking athletic abilities.
Why fake athletic abilities? Because schools have different (lower) admission standards for athletes. I can see where parents of non-athletes, who are getting turned down for admission into these same schools, will be less than pleased...
