Some people want what they want and not what they earn. “These charges come as a complete shock,” said Nina Marino, the Beverly Hills attorney defending Donna Heinel, whose indictment cost Heinel her post as senior associate athletic director at the University of Southern California. “Anyone who knows Donna Heinel knows she is a woman of integrity and ethics with a strong moral compass. We look forward to reviewing the government’s evidence and fully restoring Donna’s reputation in the college athletic community.” I guess her attorney would have to say that. I thought she was recorded saying damning things. Her only defense, far as I can tell, is she was duped by Singer, someone she trusted. Most likely scenario, IMO, she works a plea bargain in exchange for more names involved.

And the website slightly mis-spelled the name of the Law School that this attorney attended. kaplanmarino.com/attorneys/

One update from Boston, one personal comment about all of this crap, and one observation 'bout the Jerry Springer-esque atmosphere surrounding it: NOT in Massachusetts; rather, here on VT:
1) The Wake Forest Head VB coach, Tony Ferguson, has pled not guilty, fwiw. IF this dude was recorded by the FBI and/or left a paper trail, the Feds take a dim view of having to go to trial
2) The absolute, abject dearth of moral integrity inherent within this stupid, moronic, and self-inflicted drama is simply mindboggling: these are grownups? Happy I did my college correctly
3) Aside from narcissistic homer fans/posters excoriating their narcissistic university, with their narcissistic culture, narcissistic AD, & narcissistic self-centeredness/self-absorption; other universities and colleges were actually involved in this sick puppy, also. Mr. orange fish brought up Stanford, which had A CLUB SPORT coach involved. NOT QUITE THE SAME scope as usc.

Heinel’s a coward and a liar. She’ll look for a plea deal I’m sure , but I hope they don’t go easy on her. Heinel knew what she was doing was wrong, and made several piss poor attempts to cover it up. It felt great to watch her walk into court today! ☺️☺️

Because, apparently, he's a narcissist, I figured he'd appreciate the correction.

Thanks for ignoring the rest of my post: why change now?

The question we should ask as a society is...how was it so easy for these people to pull the wool over your eyes? Some people want what they want and not what they earn. Just taking advantage of the free market, you don't settle for what they give you/earn, you go for what the free market will give you, and that is what she did. This is our societal ethos right now.

You are being cynical. If it was that persuasive, there would be an app for it. Like a tinder or grindr matching up parents with money with admission officers willing to take it.

I was going for sarcastic and mocking, but I'll settle for cynical.

Oh yeah I agree with that for her part. I'm speaking about the parents.

When I saw it I thought, there must be more. Now I am the cynic.

It was a huge deal when the donation was originally announced. But he obviously didn’t think things through prior to hitting “post” on his IG account.

He's giving money (a lot of money) to the school, not bribing some AD to fake up credentials for his kid. It's like how a surprising (ha!) percentage of people in the Kennedy family have degrees from Harvard's "Kennedy School Of Government". You think there is a connection? Of course! But it's out in the open and not a crime.
