Another thing missing from Alix’s game is her serve. Last year she developed a pretty tough jump floater that scored points because of the angle it came in on. Would have been pretty effective in the Xiamen wind. But today all I saw was a standing float serve that didn’t even float much. More like a lollipop. Can’t imagine this is what they worked on in the off season—giving Alix a weaker serve.

Nice win for April/Alix, would have been nice to see more than 2-3 points. Lousy stream today

Duda needs to kick Agatha to the curb. She needs a new partner. This team once thought of having a great chance to be on top of the podium in Toyko looks like a team that may not even go. That would be a shame for this young phenom.

Man, I have watched a few games of Kerri and her partner and... Kerri needs someone that can actually hit the ball ...her partner is decent on digging but really weak on actually scoring.

That would be a shame for this young phenom. Right now, it’s almost impossible to say who will make it on the Brazilian side. Those who did well early in the quad seems to have regressed. And a new and upcoming team is making noise. Then Talita and Taiana, although it might be teams haven’t ‘refigured’ them out yet. 5 teams.

Talita/Taiana really the only mild surprise in the quarterfinals. The rest all belong there. Should be good matchups the rest of the way.

Agreed, Wolly007. I'm guessing that Goldengirls will be angry at me for saying this, but Kerri and Brooke are pretty much at their ceiling as a team given the 5'7" Brooke's shoulder issues and apparent inability to ever markedly improve her sideout game. As a fellow shortie and defender, I love Brooke, and have always rooted for her. However, I just don't see where the needed improvement, for them to start sniffing podium finishes, is going to come from if Brooke's sideout ability is what it is. Seems like the other US teams at least have some room to improve (for example, if Alix' all around skills can get better and April can continue to play at a really high level, or if Summer can still improve her blocking given her height, etc.), but not sure that Brooke is ever going to be able, at age 33, to improve her vertical and thus her ability to hit anything other than placement-type shots, etc. Hope I'm wrong, but Kerri will likely have to grab someone else if she ever wants to win again, especially internationally. By the way, it would seem to be almost the exact same situation with Phil and Nick. I think Nick's run near the top is pretty much over, and Phil is going to have to make a switch to sniff any kind of future FIVB and/or Olympic success.

If Kerri was playing bad I would understand that maybe other players would not want to play with her. But the two games I watched of them in this tournament and the others in previous tournaments Kerri was playing really well and totally dominating the net. If she can find a better partner she will have a better chance to play another Olympics games.

ATeam gets 5th at Xiamen. They lost 9-15 in the third set to Australia.
2S rematch with AP/Rebecca in the semis. 2S lost last time in the semis in Yangzhou.

Kerri needs a new partner or needs to play on 2 as a first option. Brooke isnt just a poor hitter, her shots are also not great. The field is getting deeper (Ana/Rebecca, Brandi/Heather, SS, April/Alix etc.) and Kerri isnt making semis on her own anymore.
One area where Brooke does have value though is in showing others how good Kerri still is at the net. This team creates so many point scoring opportunities and Stockman, Flint, and Sponcil should be watching this and thinking how nice it would be to get so many swings to convert for points.

Kerri showed she still has wheels.
Against S&S she willed her team to stay in the battle and made some great plays in windy conditions.
Team USAV showing depth in the women’s game, with more to come.

I absolutely knew this was going to be an uphill battle. That last match was just so frustrating to be because I felt KW was still the best player on the court and if Brooke could have done a little more, they win this match. Oh well, it is what it is...
