So, all you coaches and players out there, what are some things coaches did (or do) to correct "bad" behavior. I'm not talking about sociopathic or psychotic behavior by the players. I'm talking about the players not doing the things they're coached, taught, and instructed to do, either in practice or in games, e.g., blocking assignments, not following game plan, not paying attention to scouting report, encroaching into teammates' territory during passing, not putting any effort into drills.
How do you "punish" players? What corrective tactics have you used to get players to "get with the program."
All replies consisting of the following:
"Cut them from the team" "Run laps" "Bench them for the next match"
are not permitted simply because they're widely known.
I'm looking for "innovative" behavior modification techniques.
Also, no Clockwork Orange eyeball techniques are allowed to be mentioned because I already thought of this during my own parenting efforts. Ditto Pavlov's dog.

One time in college I missed a blocking assignment twice in a set and immediately got subbed out for a lower bench player after the second time. My coach handed me the scouting report and told me when I demonstrated that I can effectively communicate the scouting report to the whole team from the sidelines I can be trusted to be put back in the game.
I was really REALLY diligent about blocking assignments from that point on.

I create drills where the players are forced to do it in order to get out of it. Example I have a MB moved to the OH position who only hits seam angle. This spring I have put boxes line, deep cross and sharp cross.. we also added exercises balls to simulator tool. In 3 mins, she has to pass to hit. The goal is to hit the target 10x. She stays with that particular target until she completes the task.

Private Pyle should have been commended for taking responsibility for the donut. On my team, that belonged to "Not Me" or "It Wasn't Me" Realistically isn't it better to punish by giving other people playing time because that's what its all about right? Playing time.

Smoke em if you got em.
That’s one of my favorite drills.

Make them watch "Mamma Mia". The movie, not the play, right 😉?

Of course it depends one the player... But for youth players I think it’s key to get the parents support and agreement on the fact that the player isn’t being responsive/coachable. If the player goes home every night and their parents reinforce that you-the coach-are an idiot and the player can do whatever they want, it doesn’t matter how you “punish” them, you’re never going to modify their behavior.

Blood is almost always thicker than water-ever the coach wants to say.
