Great video. I think coaches who who do not see the value in being a role model for the young people who play for them and look to them to be a leader really do end up missing the boat on having great experiences with their athletes.

Chowda, What makes you say that? If you are a boss you expect your people to work. Nothing more, nothing less

They do matter BUT a coach shouldn't always be your number 1 reason as to being that specific team. Coaches can leave at any time :/

A great coach can take an average in talent team and get them to the big show.

A great coach can take an average in talent team and get them to the big show. I wanted to disagree with you but then I began to think about how great leadership inspires people and how leaders that know their team, really know their team, are able to pin point the best in them and as a result reliably get the best execution of skills from them. I think so many think that coaching is just about knowing the game. Coaching has got to be knowing human nature and knowing individuals and what they offer to the team. A really great coach can be the difference maker. You likely won’t make a team with one great player, others average with poor coaching do well but you may see a team of average players and a a great coach do well.

A really great coach can be the difference maker. You likely won’t make a team with one great player, others average with poor coaching do well but you may see a team of average players and a a great coach do well. First, we have to define what is meant by "average talent". If what you really mean is "under-developed talent" or "undeveloped potential", then you may be right. But average talent, to me, means average height, physicality, vision, understanding, etc. and it simply doesn't happen that often that average talent can consistently beat above average talent. In volleyball, Thailand and Japan play well with arguably average height players, but neither is beating more talented teams with any frequency. Russ Rose, for example, had incredible talent during his run, but hasn't come close to repeating it with lesser talent. Good coaches can certainly make players significantly better than bad coaches will, but it's sort of a "Bad New Bears " mythology that a great coach can take anyone to the greatest height. There is a limit, determined mainly by talent level, to how far it can go.

Perhaps players with less experience or maybe even players that haven’t had an opportunity to grow in their previous homes.
