Looks like my fantasy pair 5 of Dorn/Ebertin didn’t do well today. Team still won though. That new USC locker room looks amazing.

Glad to see Dorn’s Injury wasn’t serious enough to prevent her from playing two 3 setters today. Coach probably feels that Dorn/Ebertin will be the best chance to get a few wins during the next few weeks and that’s why they played both Fives today.
Cannon/Slater and Dennis/Kaiser are now solidly on rolls and if they can stay hot then USC’s chances for championships increase even more.
At 27-2, I wonder if Poletto/Hallgren have a shot at All-American. Will be harder from the Threes than if they were the Twos. Martin/Wheeler used to be great at the Threes but never got All-American.

Yeah, what they did show of the locker room did look very impressive, but it’s hard to get a sense of the full space. The video of the team seeing the new decor is on the team Instagram. Find the buff Sara Hughes in the crowd. www.instagram.com/uscbeach/?hl=en

I can think of 2 other pairs from the top of my head that would be considered along with Poletto/Hallgren.
UCLA - Muno/Van Winkle
UH - Martin/Napoleon
(clearly a west coast bias here...I kid)
I'm glad Dennis/Kaiser are starting to pick-up at the right time since that pair (or Dennis, to some observers) struggled early.

Sooo, here’s how the next three days will go for USC Beach at the PAC-12 Championships. 5-0 over Washington, none close 4-1 over Cal 3-2 over UCLA 4-1 over UCLA
At least, that’s my hope. 😆. Even the loser on Friday afternoon gets a second chance on Saturday. Also, going to try and see Friday and Saturday matches.

Hopefully they can repeat that performance tomorrow.

Yep, it really all turned this night on Dennis/Kaiser winning the Fours. And they solidly beat Simo/Monkhouse! If Dennis/Kaiser played like earlier in the year and lost, then UCLA would have won the match 3-0. Order of finish was 5, 4, 2, 3, 1.
The crowd really got excited for the third set on the Ones. There were a lot of Bruin fans, but more Trojan fans and I think the crowd made a difference. Hope the students who came late return tomorrow for the Championship Final.
Fight On!

More thoughts on tonight’s semi-final vs UCLA... Cannon/Slater got called for a lift on an otherwise winning dink over the net near the end of set 1 that made the score 18-20 instead of tied at 19. It appeared to be a great play watching from the stands and now watching the recording, Holly McPeak seemed to disagree with the lift call. Too bad there was no closeup shot on the telecast.
Cannon/Slater can turn it around tomorrow and beat Sponcil/Justine.

So, the measles quarantine at UCLA is not an issue for the beach teams?

So, the measles quarantine at UCLA is not an issue for the beach teams? There will be a huge scandal if any of them were exposed and UCLA still let them come. Even those vaccinated have a 3-7% chance of contracting with exposure. The whole team was there along with plenty of young fans.

Ed Chan’s article: volleyballmag.com/ncaa-beach-042719/“I told the girls,” USC coach Anna Collier said, ” ‘You know what? You can’t have any more fun than this. This is what life is all about, working hard, being challenged, playing good volleyball, and executing what you’ve worked on.’ “That’s what makes it so much fun, because you’ve put in the hard work, and it paid off.’ USC won the first two NCAA beach championships before relinquishing the title to UCLA last year. USC is hoping to not only win the Pac-12 title, but also get the No. 1 NCAA tournament seed when the eight-team bracket is announced Sunday night. Both the Trojans and Bruins are locks to be in the field. . . It was at No. 4 when Joy Dennis and Maja Kaiser defeated UCLA’s Savvy Simo and Lea Monkhouse 21-16, 21-15. “Maja and Joy, they train like that for us, but we don’t see them compete like that, so, for me, that was special,” Collier said. “They’ve been working hard and I’ve been hammering them. I truly have, I’ve been saying, ‘We’ve got to get this done. You do it here, there’s no reason why it can’t happen here.’ “So for them to step up like that, in that kind of a match, and play well, I really thought they held their composure. They’re one of those teams that get over-anxious and overplays the ball and over-everything, but I thought that they held their composure, and stayed patient, and that to me was huge.”

More Ed Chan: volleyballmag.com/ncaa-beach-042819/And after USC won the Pac-12 Championship on Saturday, it’s hard to imagine the Trojans won’t be the top seed, with the team they beat in back-to-back days, UCLA, the second seed. It’s likely that Florida State will be No. 3 and LSU fourth. . “Honestly, we’ve been there before. We pulled ourselves together, and said, ‘It doesn’t matter. Let’s come out and win our matches, because that’s all that matters right now. We can’t do anything about what happens over there, so let’s take care of our job,’ and that’s what we did,” Slater said. “It’s awesome having this win under our belt at Gulf Shores, because it shows that we’re progressively getting better and peaking towards the end of the season, which is exactly what we’re trying to do.” USC coach Anna Collier, whose team won the first two NCAA titles and then saw UCLA capture the crown last year, said Saturday was a big day for college beach volleyball. “Here we go, another round of USC-UCLA beach volleyball. It just grows the sport. I mean, (UCLA coach) Stein Metzger has such an amazing program over there, I haven’t been able to congratulate him yet, but he’s built that up to be an amazing program,” Collier said. “And I appreciate that, because I want to compete like this. I want this to come down to the end. I want this on television. “I’ve said it before, I want every little girl in the country to watch this and say, ‘I want to grow up and play beach volleyball in college.’ “And they will if they see this and see the excitement and the energy, and the love between the girls. It’s just an amazing environment and everybody, coaches, athletes, staff, are having an amazing experience.”

It’s easy to take the high road when you’re riding the high of winning. 😝. But still appreciated compared to Coach Whine Better.

Ok, it’s not going out on a limb... I predict a 4-1 win over Stetson on Friday 7am PT ESPNU.
LSU-Pepp, too close to call.
