Not even the harmonies sound good. Very few people sound good live except for Josh Groban and Céline Dion

This is all I know about Korean music ... What the frick is "wappam Gangnam style"? It's a sweet, spicy dipping sauce for Korean BBQ. No, actually, it's a super aged, sour kim chi. No, no, it's really a reference to Gangnam, the modern, trendy center of Seoul.

BoyToyS
In all seriousness, K-Pop is a phenomenon over here...kind of like the Backstreet Boys, BlackStreet and Boys II Men back in the 90's. I think there is a group of girls dressed up like boys, and they were a hit too. Then there is the co-ed group that was cancelled because two of the members were found to be dating...I guess its a no no clause in their contract.

Each group are also crammed into small living quarters that resembles a studio apartment for each group and they sleep in bunk beds, for instance. And instead of getting a percentage of what each group makes for record sales and concerts, they get a small allowance. They are all required to not date anyone, forced to get plastic surgery if their managers feel they need work done, strict diets (especially for the girls), strict curfews, just to name a few of their obligations. And if a group member wants to leave, they are fined a lot of money. The way these kids are treated, it is like the Golden Era of Hollywood, where majority of the stars are slaves to the industry once they sign the contract.

OMG, such a cliche.
The one with his shirttail half untucked. The one with the blue hair. The one with orange hair. The one with grey hair. The one with blonde hair. The one with a tie. Etc.
Sporty Spice, Ginger Spice, Baby Spice, Etc.
They all have to be identified as different but be interchangeable musically.

5. So, if one guy is sick or has some sort of physical impairment (e.g., sprained ankle), do they cancel an entire show? Or do they have understudies waiting in the wings? Some of those Asian pop bands are more like teams than what we think of as musical groups -- not everybody performs every show anyway. Others are more like Western bands, but even with Western musical groups, it varies whether a group member is considered essential to the show or not.

I went shopping at a Korean grocery store in Santa Clara today and over the loudspeaker was some driving k-pop song. Don’t know the song or the singers but man alive, my toes were a-tappin’. Very engaging and spirited music. Of course, it was derivative of some Western disco song I heard before because I was able to hum along and predict where it was going even though I had never heard this song before at any time in my life.
This reminded me of another time when I had some noodles at a Vietnamese noodle place. They piped Asianized Western pop music through the speakers. All pleasant. The one I remember was a Chinese-d version of Frankie Valli’s “Can’t Take My Eyes Off You,” which was bizarre. An Indian restaurant also did the same thing with Valli’s “Big Girls Don’t Cry,” with sitar accompaniment and everything. There were other American hits that were transformed into Asianized versions, all wildly pleasant and freaking funny at the same time.
