I didn't get a chance to watch the matches in full this week (highlights only), but how would we "grade" the players who actually played? From what I've gathered: Outsides - Kingdon trending down, Wilhite as expected, if not a bit better, Foecke with a slow start to passing, but steadily improved, Lee N/A OPP - Drews started strong and didn't keep it up, but still better than last season, Thompson lived up to praise S - Poulter still learning system, but good start, Hancock and Carlini ? L - Courtney is really good, worth considering moving Robinson back to OH, if we haven't already MB - Rettke lived up to hype and, even though stats might not show it, played very well, Chiaka as expected, Tapp underwhelmed, but still serviceable, Washington exceeded expectations I could be very wrong on any of these, so curious to hear if anyone who watched can provide more info I agree. I think Foecke shows tons of potential ecspecially offensively. If she gets better of out system she could be a lot better. Poulter didn’t impress me against Belgium at all, but she changed my mind against Bulgaria where I think she showed she’s meant to be on this team. I’m expecting carlini to be better but I think Hancock has now moved to 4th in the gym. Thompson was my favorite I think she could make the final roster with Lowe. Courtney is playing great, capable of being on a winning team for sure. Wilhite finally doesn’t look clueless. Liked her.

The unofficial USA stats disagree with much of the VolleyTalk consensus. Kingdon was bad against Belgium, but her .379 performance against Japan was the best match of any of the outsides this week. Foecke passed much worse in her second match against Bulgaria (although they targeted her much less than Japan did). Tapp had the highest hitting percentage of all the middles this week (.615) and her 5 blocks were behind only Rettke's 6, but she played one fewer match. She far exceeded my expectations.

Rettke can just stay in Europe at this point and fly back with UW. You only need to pay one way! If Italy and Serbia try, USA may be a little light.

Well, you’d think we’ll see quite a bit of Lee next week

Well, you’d think we’ll see quite a bit of Lee next week That’s my silver lining. Either way all three of them (OH) have something to prove. Clearly Foecke is Karch’s choice.

Like Robinson or just o done more reliable than kingdon as the vet. Hancock can handle herself against big competition, I’m sure poulter can too. Pour middles all did well last week, I hope they keep it up. Outsides are worrying me the most for sure

U.S. Women’s National Team Head Coach Karch Kiraly and his staff have chosen the following players for the VNL second weekend in Conegliano Venato, Italy: Setters (2): Micha Hancock, Jordyn Poulter Liberos (2): Megan Courtney, Mary Lake Middles (4): Chiaka Ogbogu, Dana Rettke, Hannah Tapp, Haleigh Washington Outsides (3): Madi Kingdon Rishel, Simone Lee, Sarah Wilhite Parsons Opposites (2): Annie Drews, Jordan Thompson Per FIVB rules, if you don't bring 14 players, you can't dress two liberos. So Lake will be filling a DS role again this week.

I thought all middles were bright spots for us. Thompson’s playing great but I think Cuttino could make her way to #1 OPP for team USA, we’ll see. I hope we get to see some Lee action this week or more of Lake.

Per FIVB rules, if you don't bring 14 players, you can't dress two liberos. So Lake will be filling a DS role again this week. Incorrect. Per FIVB rules, if you bring more than 12 players on your roster, you MUST dress two as libero. If you bring 12 players or less, you may designate 2 or less libero. So possible combinations are as follows: (12) 10 position players, 2 libero (12) 11 position players, 1 libero (12) 12 position players, 0 libero (13) 11 position players, 2 libero (14) 12 position players, 2 libero

Or Lake will play Libero and Courtney will play OH?! If we only have to dress one Libero then I could see this panning out.

So Foecke went home to get married and they didn’t want to buy a plane ticket for anyone to take her place? Damn USAV budget cuts. Is that what it is? It would be good to mix it up, but then again that’s not been their style.
