Maybe losing some matches they will come to realize they have to play 100% all the time now a days. No more cruise control for them like they use to be able to do

A 5th and 3rd in the first 2 AVPs losing to the same team and didn’t even make it out of pool play in Xiamen...

Trev and Tri lost 17-15 in 3rd to Evandro and Bruno. Right now I almost am willing to say they are at the same level as Phil and Nick. Jake and Taylor might be ahead of Dalcena

Jake and Taylor might be ahead of Dalcena They way the teams are playing at the very moment I would have to agree. It’s just so hard because at any moment Phil could become Phil again and he changes the game!! That team is more about Phil than anything. Nick is nick. Nick is still making the same mistakes he made when they was winning a lot. Phil needs to step it up in my option. I’m liking Tri and Trevor more and more. I can only imagine they get better throughout the year which could be scary because they are right there with all the teams. Just need a little more to get in that top tear. They side out pretty well just need to find a way to score one or 2 more points a game

Re: Dalcena
The thing is WE want to see a strong US team that could podium at the Olympics. Phil obviously doesn't care or he would not insist on only playing with Nick.
The only thing that would tell me Phil actually cares, other than picking up pocket change and having something to keep him from being bored, is to grab the best defender who isn't Taylor.
To which I ask, is that even possible. Suppose Phil and Nick sit down and Nick offers to step down b/c he realizes they have no hope of medaling in Japan and no hope of making a lot of money this year and next the way they're playing.
If Nick does that --
- whom does Phil pick up?
Or does Phil just keep on being a 5th or 9th place team in a full field, or does he just retire gracefully?
To the poster waiting for Phil to engage and just "be Phil", there are two realities that make that impossible: first is age, as you can't go back in time to regain your old reflexes, and second is that the competition is much stronger than it was back when "Phil was Phil". Since he is down a notch, he couldn't carry Nick even if Nick were at his peak anymore. He has to pick up a defender who can carry half the load.
We've all seen elite athletes drop down a notch... Even Karch said at 32 that he was trying to make up for not being at his athletic peak anymore by playing smarter. At some point there is no more "smarter" to make up for declining athleticism and reflexes, and a slow decline ensues... every one -- Dodd, Stoklos, Karch, Singin, nobody is immune, even Phil.

Jake and Taylor might be ahead of Dalcena Until Jake and Taylor medal internationally, I refuse to say that! AVP fans tend to grossly overestimate how good Taylor/Jake are internationally. They arent bottom feeders but neither are they contenders. Over the last couple years when a top team sees they are slated to play Jake/Taylor they have likely looked at them as a team they need to play hard to beat, but that they will beat if they play well. Phil/Tri is our best hope for anything on the world stage.

Also, list of teams for World Champs have already been released. Do they play it out until then? Do they (risk) los(ing) their spot if they change?
World Champs is this year’s biggest events and offers the most amount of points.
But after World Champs, do they still have enough time to play minimum 12 events if they do split?
These are just hypothetical questions because Phil seems pretty committed to Nick and vice versa.
