Pools and seeds should be posted shortly. I figured this is worth it's own thread. Good luck to all participating.

In their slightly tongue-in-cheek predictions (because pools aren't posted yet), PrepVolleyball predicts that Texas Image will beat Legacy in the 18 Open finals. Circle City and TAV take 3rd.

Legacy for the win, they do a better job in the backcourt. Separately, anyone else not very impressed with the 18's play this year?

To my untrained eye, the top teams this year (Legacy, TIV, TAV, SPVB) are as good as the top 18s teams in the last couple of seasons.

I just remember watching some 18's play at triple crown during the same time as 17's and 16's and not seeing that big of a difference in overall quality of play. I agree that those team you mentioned are very good volleyball teams. I'll be tuning into nationals....see if my perception changes.

I mean even the fact that Circle City is projected to place third kinda supports the opinion of not-so-great level of 18s play (they're pretty much a one trick pony with Baird and their setter tries too hard!). 2015/2016 were some pretty great years 2015: Tstreet had Plummer/Hodson lighting it up, Coast was stacked with Sun, Dahlke and Page, TAV was also stacked, Mizuno LB had YBG, Iosia, etc., Laguna beach had Ruddins/Ford, Front Range had Raskie, Poulter, Hranicka.... heck even some of the silver/bronze teams were strong with Rancho Valley, Five Stars (man Van Winden was sooo good), and Vision. 2016: MN select with their special group, AZ Storm too, Invasion, KC Power, Milw Sting, TAV had a strong group, Aspire/Tstreet/Mizuno were pretty solid too.

Would like to see Texas Image win it. Besides being from Arlington, one of their players is a high school teammate of my granddaughter and she played in a youth league with two other girls on the team.

I can't believe there will be around 272 - 280 teams attending the 18s GJNC in Dallas.
48 teams - Open 48 teams - National 48 teams - American 64 teams - USA 64-72 teams - Patriot
I just figured after maybe the top 75-100 teams the remainder of the 18s teams would wind down senior year and look to stay healthy before they head off to school for summer training as incoming Freshman.

Outside of the top 100 teams, the percentage of players that are made to report to college over the summer is very small.

Is that based on your belief that only Power 5 type programs require coming to the school over the summer, or that all of the Power 5 type players have to play on top100 teams?

Neither of those are absolutes, but the percentages are true. Top-100 college programs are much more likely to require freshmen report early and a large percentage of the recruits going to those top-100 programs come from top-100 club teams.

All of the teams in the top 4 divisions that you listed won their way in the tournament so they were motivated to play in it.

Not that it changes much, but there are 48 teams in USA division, not 64.
