I predict either Legacy or TIV get eliminated in the Challenge Bracket, either by each other or by Coast. Top Select doesn't survive the Challenge Bracket either. After last season's 18s, I'll never count out Top Select.

I saw them play at the Dallas qualifier, losing to a good but young AZ Revolution team (4 2020s) and to a Skyline team that was missing one (maybe 2?) of its best hitters, then the next day Coast struggled 15-12 to get by an ok Arizona team (club one) that never qualified open and squeaked by Excel, who needed an at large bid. Yet coast seems to be consistently ranked/seeded very high so maybe they were missing a player that tournament or improved greatly as the season went on....

for an undersized OH, Jenaisya Moore at Metro (going to Ohio State) looks pretty solid today.

In looking at the pools last night and looking at the PV ranking and Black Ink to start the season, it seemed like just about anyone could win pools 8. NPJ being a 5th seed in a 6 team pool seems crazy. They have knocked off the #3 and #4 and are 2-0 although both matches went 3 sets and they were outscored in their win over Club V. I would guess that if there were some really good metrics on these teams - those first 5 in Pool 8 would have close to an even chance.

NPJ is a decent team, but their first two contacts doesn't let them hang with the better 18's clubs. Their best net player (Summers) is struggling through a foot injury, Williams is a bit erratic in her attacking (Despite being a high senior ace), and they have a sophomore, albeit one who can generally score at this level, as their only 6 rotation player.

Depends on the definition of the better teams in the 18 division. This pool to me looks like 5 teams that can be pretty good on the right day, but are clearly a step below the contenders? Just my perception based on little real knowledge.

NPJ finishes the day 3-0 having beat #2 Circle City. They have #1 and #6 left in pool tomorrow.

Coast and TIV both went 3-0 and 6-0 today with a very slight "points for/points against" advantage to Coast. They had 2 common opponents today: Coast beat Livewire -22, -20, while TIV dispatched them -16, -17. The other common opponent was OT (apropos ): Coast -24, -21, while TIV -29, -23. The TIV vs. Coast match ought to be good. The loser is likely going to face Forza or Excel in their challenge bracket with that winner facing Legacy. With only one of those 4 teams making the top 8. I saw Legacy and Aspire set 2. Cullen was not playing, not sure if it was on purpose or injury, but the offense didn’t look as crisp. If Cullen is out, Legacy may not win this thing.

how are ties broken in pool play? No playoff at Nationals in pools of 6, head to head first just like qualifiers....if 3 or more teams tied in matches, goes to sets then points. We once advanced by the difference of 2 points. One caveat, that came in about five years ago, if three teams tied 3-2 for example and one team beat the other two, they advance. That happened to a team in our club even though they were last in sets/pts. I didn’t notice anything new if there is a change.

how are ties broken in pool play? A team’s final pool finish is determined by match results. If team(s) are tied at the completion of pool play, tie breaker procedures will apply... 2-way tie = head to head 3-way tie - involving teams that can win the event = the general principle is that you can't be eliminated from contention via a tie-break. So, for example if 2 teams stay alive and 3 are tied, they will rank the 3 teams (h2h, set%, pt% - i think) and then teams 2 and 3 will play off for the spot in Gold.
