Are there even spots for all the cross-overs? With 5 flights (or exhibition 6), that's 12 players. The "top" beach-only players: Julia Scoles Amy Ozee Kylin Loker Sofia Russo Pani Napoleon Morgan Martin The "top" incoming beach recruits: Anna Maidment Sabrina Hardisty Maia Hanneman Possible Indoor cross-overs: Norene Iosia Brooke Van Sickle Hanna Hellvig Jolie Rasmussen Bailey Choy Riley Wagoner Wildcard grad transfer: Harlee Kekauoha That's 16 players for 12 "starting" spots. There's no room! I suppose the only possibility is that Wagoner and Choy may not play, and a couple of the freshmen along with Rasmussen who has never played beach will not start but merely "train up" (or redshirt) in preparation for next season. You left Ilihia Huddleston off your "Top" incoming list. Recent AVCA All-'Murican, no big deal, just another player to consider.
Oh, great. Huddleston is the only player I leave out (due to laziness, more than anything else) and she ends up being the only one named to the AVCA High School Beach All-American team. www.avca.org/awards/all-regional-all-america-awards/high-school-beach-allamerica.html

If Maidment’s name had been Haidment, the incoming freshmen could have been nicknamed the 4-H Club. 🍀😜

Former Sandbow Karissa Cook:
Might be the cynic in me but I doubt she follows or roots for the UH indoor team. She played for Stanford indoor and UH beach. I doubt she's going to root for a team she has no connections with. I think she's just trying to say nice things for the Hawaii media. Kudos to her though. The only honest part of the interview was when she said "oh, this is the route I took to class..." I can see how that's exciting because I felt the same way whenever I visited all of my college campuses.

She plays with Katie Spieler and Hartong in Snow Volleyball and the upcoming 4's tourney so she's at least close to the players.(I know she dumped Spieler as her 2's partner, but both of them have been getting better results since they split up)

I know Huddleston is the gem of this incoming class, don't know jack about the other 3. IMO the crossover players listed: Hellvig, BVS, Rasmussen and Iosia will do well at Beach. Hellvig is already a great beach player, BVS (who can do everything on the court) is a natural beach player, JR would pickup where Nikki and Hartong left off,and Iosia is another all around player like BVS and played beach last year.... damn Jeff Hall is one lucky guy.

Huddleston is the gem because she was an AA. The other three are no slouches either. Hannemann and Hardisty have won multiple US events. Maidment is one of Canada’s best so alll 4 are big time for the future. Here’s what Jeff Hall said about the 3 recruits. hawaiiathletics.com/news/2018/11/16/womens-beach-volleyball-sandbows-sign-three-recruits-for-2019.aspxNoticed Huddleston’s name was not on the list. I think she was supposed to walk but played lights out this past season and earned the HS AA status.

So what does that mean? Is Huddleston still coming to sandbows? Are the crossover players confirmed?

So what does that mean? Is Huddleston still coming to sandbows? Are the crossover players confirmed? Huddleston is in school and is here already. In fact, she is rooming with fellow beach volleyball player Maia Hannemann. An article earlier in the year had Huddleston walking one with another Hilo girl(Laurie McGrath) who ended up at San Francisco but Ilihia blossomed her last year to earn HS AA Bottom line....UH beach's future looks bright and brighter with these 4 on board.

Anybody know if Angel Gaskin will play beach again this spring? I know she is still in school and last year was her first year in the program. Since she never redshirted at Maryland, I think she hs one more year to play right. She seems to be hanging around with the beach team and doing stuff on the west side of the island with the beach and men’s team.

As raian mentioned, she has used up her eligibility due to her enrolling a semester early at Maryland. Similar situation with Scoles, she did the same at North Carolina which is why she may be a senior this upcoming season. Gaskin is in her final semester and is hoping to go pro after December.

kaipono you think she’s been practicing? You don’t know forsure? I heard Danny Alvarez quit, is this rumor or do you know if he quit or maybe was asked to leave? You seam to have the inside scoop on what’s happening on this team so though you or someone else might know. Not sure if he was asked to leave or quit but I heard the same thing that he is no longer the volunteer assistant Guess the rumor was true. Didn't see this post about Homayun being named volunteer assistant they posted last month. hawaiiathletics.com/news/2019/9/26/homayan-joins-beach-volleyball-staff.aspxBut article mentions " Homayun replaces veteran volunteer coach Danny Alvarez who is taking a hiatus due to family reasons after being with the program since it's inception since 2012." Hope everything is okay with his family, but going to miss him, he's been there for so long and the players loved him! Best wishes to him and welcome Ari!
