Watching this next semi-women's, uh, is this what the AVP has come to? A "bit" underwhelming skill sets to be watching this deep into the tourney (I haven't watched much on the women's side, so I have NOTHING (as usual), to go with this other than....really?

My guess would be Karissa and Jace will roll through the finals, IMHO, so we'll have to see how my 5-minute analysis (including R & D performed) predicts Austin!

Are you dismissing the skills of a whole group of AVP players Jim? Better not let Beavis hear you. I am rooting for Team Burr, first team ever to go from failing to make the final round of the qualifier one week to an actual final the next week, but your 5 minute analysis seems right on in terms of who will actually win.

My predictions never, ever come true. However, after watching Cook/Pardon take 5th in Huntington and seeing how well they seemed to jell as a team, and realizing that none of the teams who finished higher than them in Huntington are even here, I thought that perhaps they might at least have a podium finish here. Didn't think they might make the Finals, especially since Jace seems a bit out of shape but good for them! Could not ask for two nicer gals to take advantage of a watered down field!
Guest2 - no problem at all with what folks are saying! Obviously, without Pavan/Humana-Paredes, Alix/April, Sara/Summer, Stockman/Larsen and Brandi Wilkerson in this field, unlike at Huntington Beach, this is a less than stellar field. The level of play is naturally going to be lower without those players there. In my eyes, however, it is still fun to watch the less-accomplished players trying to break through, and see them working their asses off for a chance that might not normally come their way. And at least Jim is quite the gentleman in his comments, and admits that he initially was watching the U18's. I am guessing that the average fans who are there in Austin are having fun as well, judging by the crowds and by Beej05's updates. My only issue I with you and when you arrogantly call the players names or demean the entire AVP next and AVP tour, as in when you say that everyone agrees that "the product stinks." That, in my humble opinion, makes you kind of a condescending twit.

But after seeing the Nourse sisters as well as Kraft and Maple in Huntington, I’d say the American girls are in pretty good shape for the future.

14th seed’s fairytale ends here. Not bad coming from qualifiers to 2nd place.

Good weekend for Karissa and Jace. Their ball control and defense was excellent with very few errors. Looking forward to see them play against a full field because they really dominated those second tier teams. Wouldn’t be surprised to see them making it to Sunday again.

AJM - were you there watching that late afternoon Quali day Kraft/Maple v. Nourse twins match? Was not many of us there watching, but those kids were crazy good and so incredibly mature for 16 years old - how impressive was that? They kinda took the Nourse's apart, an we were pretty amazed - wonder if those kids will be recruited to the same college together?
Underwhelming skill set and sucks are hardly synonymous, Guest2 - nice try. Jim ended up realizing he was talking about the U18's and ended up being way cool about it, but you still apparently believe that the entire "AVP product stinks," which is again, somewhat hilarious considering that you have never been to a Donald Sun-run AVP tournament. You even went so far as to state with certainty that "everyone agrees" that the AVP stinks - not sure I have ever read that from anyone else on here, and I have certainly never heard it from folks who actually attend the events in person. Its fun watching you try to backtrack and try to make yourself seem reasonable!`

Nourse twins against Smith/Wheeler and Kraft/Maple against Sykora/Tiegs, I believe. Never would have guessed those girls were 16 though. Much better than the U18s we saw today.
