They were ringing the bells, which very well could have been the start of them rising up (Cersei sure as hell didn't order the bells to be rung), but Dani destroyed them anyway. The Tarlys surrendered, but Dani killed them anyway. I'll go back to general rules of pre-industrial warfare. You surrendered *before* the battle started, or else you usually suffered the consequences of losing. We're used to rules of warfare that separate out soldiers and civilians; rules that also say it is murder to execute captured prisoners. They didn't have those rules. Rape, pillage, murder, arson -- these were all understood as being the usual consequences of the fall of a city unless that city surrendered BEFORE the fighting started. Once the fight started, there was no "Oh, now we're losing, so we surrender please." That was almost never allowed. Dani had a choice as to whether to accept the city's surrender or not. And she was now convinced that showing mercy was not going to work. She had shown mercy to King's Landing ever since she arrived on Westeros, and what had it gotten her? Cersei had lied about helping in the North. Cersei had used the time to reinforce her army. Euron had killed her allies sailing to Dorne. Euron had killed her dragon. Cersei had killed her best friend. Every time she showed mercy, it had been used against her. So this time she didn't show mercy. This time she said, you chose to fight, so you pay the full price. Obviously we see it as a horror. First of all because it is horrible! But also because as a society we have rules against this sort of thing in warfare. (And yet, we're perfectly fine with threatening each other's cities with nuclear weapons for the last 60 years.) Jon saw it as a horror too, but Jon had never really been in on the sack of a city. He didn't know what it was like. And when he heard Dani openly say that she was going to do this to EVERY city in the world until everyone acknowledged her "enlightened" rule -- that's when he decided she had to be stopped. Maybe he was wrong. Maybe when things settled down a little she would have come to regret King's Landing. Or maybe not.

Well, she sure had already gotten the ball rolling in King's Landing, so that doesn't resolve the issue. she never addressed the people of Kings Landing they way she did in the slavers bay cities. as far as the common folk knew, she was an invader leading a host of Dothraki savages, ruthless mercenaries, and a fire breathing dragon to pillage and destroy their city. (guess they were right on that one) It was EXPLICITLY stated that the reason she went to negotiate with Cersei was so people would know she had offered surrender first.

Not sure how that does anyone any good since the show is over ...
I like the theory that Drogon thought the chair killed her. I mean, metaphorically, it did. But literally.

That was so funny, yet all true.
I'm sticking to my wild suspicion that the showrunners were either not involved this season or purposely tanked the final season to avoid future obligations with HBO.
Aaron Rodgers take on season 8 was pretty good: "I love the show, but the writers were off doing Star Wars. So, I think they might have been a little busy this last season."

Fortunately, Cogman is doing the 4 spin off shows.
Some comments:
"Low-key a game of spot the Cogman episode."
"Would those be high or low points on the graph? I'm unfamiliar with him and genuinely curious."
"High points. He’s known for his dialogue heavy scripts."

This is dumb. George Lucas ruined Star Wars 20 years ago when he made Episode 1 (Phantom Menace).

This was very nice. If the showrunners would've taken 10 minutes of the final episode to add this twist, it would've made the whole final season worthwhile.

Just because Bran could warg into Hodor (who was rather simple-minded) doesn't mean he could warg into anyone. Of course, it could be argued that if Bran were the Night King, he was powerful enough to warg into anyone. Or perhaps it could be argued that Dany was simple-minded like Hodor.
And I don't buy the theory that "Bran is the Night King" in terms of him having been NK the whole time. But I could see something slightly different such as NK was actually an even more powerful warg, and he warged into Bran. Perhaps at first, temporarily, when NK "touched" Bran in his vision (while Bran was physically in the Three-Eyed Raven cave). But then when Arya killed NK's White-Walker body, NK transferred his consciousness into Bran's body.

It's sort of a cool horror movie twist, but it fits into the established story even worse than what we were given.

There's also the "John Hughes version" ending.
