When are rosters supposed to be released? Like how VNL had preliminary rosters? Anybody have a clue?

Good for her if it'll keep her healthy physically and mentally. But also sucks because I was enjoying Pietrini's growth. I hope she is able to return down the line. I feel like she has a great future.

China has begun preparations for the World Cup. One of their liberos said that the new Mikasa V200W ball which will debut for this tournament feels heavier and more difficult to pass. I probably missed it, but have they explained why they've decided to start using a new ball less than a year from the Olympics instead of waiting until the start of the new quad? I'm sure it'll make the game more interesting to see what teams adapt quickly to it but also, it puts the game at a disadvantage too.

I feel like she has a great future. Every player may be different physically and mentally, but for someone her age to step up and say they need a break for good reason, that is a true sign of strength. The pressure on young athletes these days are rough. Hope she comes back stronger both in mind and body.

Same as 2007 - they started using the MVA200 after the World Cup - maybe the 2008 Grand Prix was the first event it was used internationally? So this is at least better than that switch. Edited to add: the MVA200 was first used at the 2008 Olympics, so teams didn’t even get to play the 2008 Grand Prix with it.

"The V200W features a perfectly balanced, 18-panel aerodynamic design that improves ball movement and gives players greater control. With enhanced visibility, the new indoor ball will optimise the quality of play and maximise excitement on the court." www.fivb.org/viewPressRelease.asp?No=80119&Language=en#.XVRkouNKiM8Will it really help ball control? How will it affect serves? All will be answered in the World Cup next month.

I was just digging through the archives of all of the major tournaments and I really had no idea that the USA only has 1 win out of all of the following (Grand Champions Cup, World Cup, World Championships, Olympic Games)!!!!! I thought there was a GCC victory in there somewhere but nope. On the US men's team they have 3 Olympic Golds, 2 World Cup Golds, 1 World Championship Gold, and no Grand Champions Cup titles. 4 out of the 6 of those are from 1984-1988 when Karch was a player. Our girls make the podium in almost every competition but never seem to climb that final rung of the ladder. How vexing.....

From the press release (thanks!): "The double-dimpled microfiber surface stabilises the flight path of the ball and creates additional cushioned ball control, whilst the anti-sweat functionality “Nano Balloon Silica” prevents the surface of the ball from becoming slippery during intense play. The ball exceeds the FIVB’s homologation standards..." Well, of course, lol. No wonder the Chinese players are looking at those volleyballs so skeptically.

US men is the third most accomplished men’s volleyball program in history with 6 Big 3 tournaments titles, while US women is far behind China, Cuba, Russia, Japan, Italy, Brazil

So winning World Cup at least adds to a programs glory. In China, they only count Big 3 tournaments (World Cup, World Championships, Olympics) titles as world champions, which is why they don’t give a damn about Grand Prix or VNL

Looking like Brazil, China and USA will be fielding their strongest rosters for this tournament. Serbia won't which is understandable since they would have to place lower than 7th or 8th to MAYBE drop to 3rd in the world rankings and that is IF the USA wins the tournament. The Dutch come in with 0 points as they weren't included in the 2015 edition. If they place high enough they should skyrocket up to as high as 3rd if they beat the USA. I do not expect Brazil, Russia and Serbia to do well in this tournament. Again it will all come down to what the rosters look like per team.
The 2015 World Cup rankings and points:
1/ China - 100 2/ Serbia - 90 3/ USA - 80 4/ Russia - 70 5/ Japan - 50 * Brazil - 50 (they placed 5th in the 2011 World Cup before London 2012 so they retain these points from way back then) 6/ South Korea - 40 7/ Dominican Republic - 30 8/ Argentina - 25 9/ Cuba - 5 10/ Kenya - 5 11/ Peru - 5 12/ Algeria - 5
With Algeria being replaced by Cameroon that is a decent upgrade. Brazil replaces Peru and Cuba is replaced by a CEV Netherlands because the USA didn't qualify as world champions this quad. So this tournament has the makings of one of the most competitive in a while.
The Dutch don't look that great at the moment and they haven't qualified yet for the OG so I expect Morrison to bring the big guns. You can bet the Dominican Republic, Argentina, Korea and Japan (Hosts) will bring a decent roster. Cameroon and Kenya will be played by most teams benches and should end up at the bottom of the table.
What I wouldn't give to have the FIVB drop one of the CAVB slots for another CEV slot. That would see Italy here too. I wonder how long before CEV stops taking this crap from the FIVB? The only tournament where Europe has even close to proper representation is the WCH.
Why not give the fans and the sport what it needs? BETTER COMPETITION IN EVERY TOURNAMENT!

USA team is back in Anaheim preparing for the World Cup. Few new faces with the A squad...looks like Hannah Tapp, Krystal Rivers and Rachael Adams are all there. I count 18 girls, so some obviously will not be on the final roster. http://instagram.com/p/B1WiK1DABdQ
