So, between the VNL team, Pan Am roster and the CNT team there are like 50-60 athletes all training in Anaheim this week? You can’t say Karch isn’t giving everybody a look at this point.... Shouldn't it be a little more focused, a year out?

Well if Murphy was playing, she would hit really well off of her Carlini, with Robinson passing... the 1,2,3 Sports Performance Punch

Shouldn't it be a little more focused, a year out? Should it? Should Speraw not have made room for Tuaniga, Ma'a, Huhmann, Dagostino, etc. in the gym this summer either? It's not like all these athletes are in contention for senior roster spots. I don't understand this take.

Out of those 60 only about 20 are getting a real look. The rest are getting an opportunity for growth in the USNT setting. I don't see any chance for anyone besides Thompson, Foecke, Rettke, White and maybe Plummer of the non-professionals having any chance to making the Oly team. Still if this group managed to make the squad there would be a lot of veteran last-minute bumping and would probably be seen as a risky Oly year gamble by Karch. How's Karch's poker game?

I did not vote. However, I cannot believe that Tori Dixon has not increased her chances of making the USA Team to Tokyo, after her performance and the USA's win in the VNL Championship. Many people want to write off the "old guard", but she and Larson have definitely proven their worth. They bring a wealth of experience and knowledge to this sport, which IMO is much needed. A little of the old and a little of the new could be the answer for the final roster for team USA.

Her block was slowing down everything Brazil was throwing at us and it allowed us to run our offense much more in system. Nothing flashy but it was crucial.

What’s the rule on libero changing internationally? Can a player change to a libero jersey between games (and vice versa), or do liberos have to be named before the match?
I still think KR is our best libero. Question is, where is she on the OH depth chart? USA may have to take Courtney if KK decides KR is first OH off the bench.
Seriously doubt Mary Lake would have been the 2nd libero, but that lost passport sealed the deal. I thought Courtney looked better these last matches. But not as good as KR. Tough decisions.

I think Mary lost some very important experience and exposure by not being available to play in Russia. Who knows, she might have made an impression there. I can definitely see her making some future rosters.

Thought I had a good sense of where the roster was going to end up about a week ago. Today, it is clear that everything I thought I knew now I don't. I would've thought Larson would be the 3rd OH and that Dixon would be behind Ogbogu, Washington and Foluke while being pushed from behind by a hard-charging Rettke. Now I may put her as no worse than the 3rd MB, making the roster solely for her blocking acumen. MBH looked like a shoe-in for the starting lineup, but she still can't pass and that was a huge problem today and will continue to be. Robinson looked like the libero by default, but she's looked pretty good at OH.
Basically, I have no freaking idea.

And when do they return for final Olympic Training? Lots of tough decisions to be made.

Last international competition for the US women is the continental championships in early October - players would leave for club season shortly after. Club seasons vary in length - Asian (Japan/China/Korea) tend to be much shorter, while European club lengths go until early May with their domestic league and Champions league
