Gopherfan is probably right. Keep in mind that while the VNL finals roster must draw from the original VNL list, the IOQT roster is open and has not yet been named. Those not appearing on the Pan-Am games roster may still be in consideration for the IOQT, and my first candidate for such consideration would be RJP, who was very good in the 3-2 win against Canada.

Guess Kathryn Plummer’s horrible performance in the USA/Canada scrimmages we’re not a factor? Nor was RJP’s outstanding performance? #bitter #homer I know, KP, she’s amazing. But put her at OPP. With that kind of logic how do you explain RJP’s invitation to even play for the US after her semifinal performance in last years tournament?

There is also the Pan Am Cup (starts next week), the NORCECA Champions Cup in Colorado in August, and the NORCECA Continental Championship in Puerto Rico in October. Along with World Championships! Not sure which “team” will be sent to all these tournaments, but still lots of opportunities.

I don’t think any of these on this Pan Am team have a real shot at all in 2020. These are left over players that are not really in consideration for anything else right now. They are mostly practice players, with a few headed back overseas late summer. Unfortunately!

You're wanting to toss away a player for one poor performance? Sure, maybe it suggests RJP's ability to excel against elite competition. But, I'd rather see that proven out over a longer period of time than an NCAA semifinal.

The number of players will thin out with NCAAs, but opportunities none the less.

It's also a developmental roster. If I recall correctly, names like Carlini and Ogbogu were on this roster a year ago and most, as of today, expect them to be starters on the 2020 team.

Might have had something to do with Quade, who was a blocking machine that match! I’m only half kidding with my post. Of course KP has 2024 serious potential. As a OPP, IMO!

Not sure KP at OPP is good for the health of the opposing team's line defender(s). In the spirit of detente we should have a supply of these on hand for the opposing team to use just in case they need protection ... WARNING: KP line shots can be hazardous to your health

Even if they never make the senior team, these players are needed to fill the rosters of these other tournaments (or a round or two of VNL to give others a break) and also help prepare the team for the Olympics, VNL, etc. Most have contracts in Italy, Brazil, Japan, China, Germany, etc. so they are getting good experience. And who knows...maybe someone flashes and moves up a bit later in their career! And there’s probably some that just want to continue playing volleyball after college and consider this a good opportunity to continue playing through the summer and hang out with their friends (as the women’s team does seem to have some really close friend groups).

Might have had something to do with Quade, who was a blocking machine that match! Quade being a blocking machine in the 2018 National Semifinals would have had zero impact on RJP's performance, since Illinois played Nebraska that night. Perhaps you were thinking of a Stanford player? (Also, I just checked and Quade had zero blocks in that match against Nebraska. Not really a "blocking machine".)

Think she had 13 blocks or something that match
