Turkey swept Netherlands. Serve-Pass won the game. Morrison was the worst one from Dutch side, again. Substitutions by him were just awful, especially for serving. Man, there are 12k people screaming out to death and you bring youngsters, never played in that kind of atmosphere, to serve...They of course served out. Even experienced ones had a rough time against crowd.
Turkish OH duo, Baladin-Ismailoglu played their best game in this tournament.

I was wondering if there was a thread for this tournament, I must've missed it with all the college threads.
Russia had a slight chance in the 3rd, but Voronkova just could not get past the block. Their outside hitter duo with her and Parubets just isn't working and puts more of a load on Goncharova. I'm not sure if Kosheleva could even help if she was there.
Turkey are showing that they are the front runners for the European Qualifier. Naz adds experience to the team.
Dutch fans aren't too happy with Morrison right now. I feel bad for Daalderop, she always seems to get injured every year.
Serbia without Rasic leaves an opening for Italy.

What happened?

Daalderop injuried at the beginning of 3rd set. She was blocking and she stepped on her teammate's foot.

Mannnn...Germany looses on a net touch. It had to have been the 7th or 8th one of the match. That with bad passing, missed serves and Lippman’s many foot faults on the 10 cost them this match.
To be fair....Poland’s offense looked really good! Stysiak and Medrydz really stepped up their offense which took pressure off of Smarzek. Wolosz is such a beast.
Congrats Poland! They will face Turkey in what should be a very evenly matched semi final.
Serbia vs Italy should be good too I just feel like Italy is more stacked team with more depth.
Looks like Pool C was just a really weak pool as the Dutch were the only team made it past the round of 16 and then lost in the quarters. Pool D was slightly less weak.
Pools A and B were tougher.

I haven't been able to follow this like I would have liked to, but I'm not sure what's the deal with Turkey.
Turkey went 5 with FINLAND in pool play, which, since it's pool play, okay, I'll forgive. But then, in the Quarterfinals, they went 5 with CROATIA. Croatia has been down recently, and even when they were up they were really erratic. Croatia actually was up 2-1 in the match and lost a heartbreaking 5th, 16-14.
Turkey of course, finds itself just two wins away from winning the whole Championship. But the more important event is the Olympic Qualifier and it will be interesting to see if Turkey can sustain in that event. There is a lot less margin for error since there is no weaker competition in that tournament.

As I watch more and more of these tournaments I find that it is BETTER to draw a tougher first round pool. That way when you encounter a tough opponent during elimination/latter phases of a tournament you are more likely to step it up and not crumble under the pressure.

After this tournament the CEV rankings will shift some and if I’m not mistaken it is the top 8 teams that haven’t already qualified for the OG that get to play in the CEV Qualifier. Currently that is: Netherlands Turkey Germany Belgium Bulgaria Poland Czech Republic Croatia Interestingly the Czech Republic didn’t qualify for 2019 Eurovolley so their ranking should drop and Belarus didn’t make it out of pool play so that opens the door a little for Azerbaijan to maybe sneak in there. I agree with you on the competitive level of this qualifier. With Poland, Belgium and Germany trending up....the Dutch and Turkey will have to be very tidy during the tournament. It’s a round robin if I’m not mistaken. Any word on who is hosting yet?

I haven't been able to follow this like I would have liked to, but I'm not sure what's the deal with Turkey. Turkey was/is very inconsistent cause of a couple of reasons. Naz is just back from maternity break and she is not ready to play all tournament. She played as a starter only against Netherlands. She played 5th set against Finland and 4-5th sets against Croatia. And Turkey won all these sets. She is world class setter and makes lots of difference, even she is not 100% ready. Other setter, ozbay, is talented girl but she is mentally so weak. Playing with +10k people doesn't help her, makes her stressed more. Also Giovanni tried some stupid line ups. Such as Karakurt on the left side. The best left side duo of Turkey is Baladin-Ismailoglu, and it was their first time playing all game together... Middle blocker Akman was with her first start as well. She is not as good as Gunes at attacking but she is much better blocker. And it's more important when your other middle, erdem, hits very efficiently. This European Championship is with 24 teams and it's long. (It used to be with 12/16 teams). So, Giovanni knew that Turkey can't play with same starting 6 cause of some reasons and he waited for the best moment to put ideal 6 on the court. Turkey with Giovanni is not as good as Serbia/Italia, but I think much better than Netherlands with Jamie. I'm sure Jamie is a good trainer but not a good coach. Ps; Turkey will host OQ. 2 groups with 4 teams. Semi final-Final.

Morrison has not added anything new, so Guidetti knows them more than anyone else does.

Having watched the first semi-final, I just loved how Ogjenovic set her hitters, especially the middles. MVP IMO. Serbia will be the first contender for gold in Tokyo.
