Turkey fought off Germany today but I definitely noticed a difference not having Ismailoglu on the floor. That still pisses me off more than it should.
Serbia started the match VS Thailand with three aces in a row by Mihajlovic. Both she and Bosković are back to jump serving. Thailand didn’t look bad at all......Serbia just looked superb. Even without Rasić they just played so well. Even Busa was killing the ball and passing decently. Ognjenović just makes that Serbian clock tick.
I got a little emotional watching Belgium and The Netherlands play. It was SOOOO good to see DeKruijf back in a NT Jersey. Also Belgium are just continuing to get better and better.
I definitely wish Thailand, Germany and Belgium had ended up in other pools where they had more of a chance to qualify. Thailand could get their ticket through AVC but that depends on the result of Pool B.
So much good volleyball so far!

Up to date, here's what's going on:
The Olympic bid will MOST Likely come down to the winner of these matches: Pool A : Poland vs. Serbia Pool B : China vs. Turkey Pool C : USA vs. Bulgaria Pool D : Brazil vs. Dominicana* Pool E : Russia vs. South Korea Pool F : Netherlands vs. Italy
Cameroon, Azerbaijan eliminated. I think you can make a good case that there is a miracle needed for these others: Thailand, Puerto Rico, Mexico, Canada, Kenya, Belgium, Germany, Czech Republic, Argentina, and Kazakhstan. Anyone in this grouping is likely eliminated.
Brazil vs. Dominicana is tomorrow at 6am. Winner to the Olympics. USA vs. Bulgaria is tomorrow at 3pm. (Pacific times) Mathematically this isn't winner to the Olympics, but most likely will be.
The rest of the (winner-to-olympics) big matches will be on Sunday. There could be an upset or two to shake things up (for example, maybe some teams will only need to win 2 sets on Sunday's match to advance to the Olympics).

Europe needs Serbia, Turkey, and Russia to win. Asia needs China to win badly. IF South Korea wins as well, Thailand would practically be a lock. South America DESPERATELY needs Brazil to win. Brazil will not lose South American Qualification. NORCECA needs Dominican Republic and USA to win. This would give a spot to Puerto Rico, Canada, or Cuba(?)

As a neutral who just wants as many of the best teams in Tokyo as possible, I guess I'm pulling for the Dominican Republic and Serbia (I'm not sure a third North American team is better than Argentina, but it would be more entertaining). Then China OR Korea, but not both.

The slightly-below top-tier European teams--Turkey, Netherlands, Germany, Belgium, etc.--are the ones who get punished for their Federation membership.

China and Korea both have European teams in their group. I'm assuming both of those Asian teams are top 12 (not certain about Korea). If they BOTH win, that's one less European team that will qualify and Thailand will take their place. Agreed that all of those teams are better than a 2nd South American team or a 3rd North American team, but since Brazil and DR are in the same pool, we're definitely going to get stuck with one of those (assuming USA wins this weekend).

Yes, it's rather complicated. I would rank the European teams (or my preference for European team qualification) as such: Serbia, Italy, Turkey, Netherlands, Russia. Asian team qualification: China, South Korea, Thailand. Norceca: USA, Dominicana South America: Brazil

My predictions:
Pool A: Serbia Pool B: Turkey Pool C: USA Pool D: Dominican Republic Pool E: Russia Pool F: Netherlands
AVC: China CSV: Brazil NORCECA: Canada CAVB: Cameroon CEV: Italy
5 CEV, 3 NORCECA, 1 CSV, 1 CAVB, 2 AVC
Canada and Cameroon will likely go 0-5 in their Olympic pools.
Pool A at Tokyo will definitely be the weaker pool. Unfortunately the USA will almost certainly be in the weaker pool unless China or Serbia place 5th or lower at the World Cup.

Turkey had a slight test, but ultimately pulled away with a 3-1 win over Czech Republic
Germany is playing blow for blow with China in the 1st set.
Dominicana and Brazil will play in ~45 minutes to determine who will join host Japan as officially qualified for Tokyo 2020!

8-7 Brazil at the 1st TTO. Back and forth so far.
16-10 Brazil stepped up their service pressure and is attacking efficiently. DR brings a triple block on the high outside sets, but they haven't been blocking well so far.

17-13 Brazil takes a T/O after DR gets just two points. Ze is smart.

21-19 Brazil lead cut down to 2, 2nd T/O Brazil
Brazillian S, Macris is REALLY struggling. DR is starting to get in rhythm, but Brazil serves tough. Rivera is really swinging hard and hoping she gets covered, and most of the time she is.
