Looking at current BEDS for section 6....1050 for D1 would mean 5 schools. Section 5 would have 3. A huge number would fall in the 500-1049 range.

I like the idea of three classifications, but they would have to be very careful with the numbers. I think D1 would have to be between 900 and 1000.

So the NYSPHSAA website? Does anyone have info on the column that shows 901+ for D1 cutoff? This appears that the 950+ cutoff number will hold in fall of 2020 and then 2021 will be 901+ because that’s definitely not the case as of this year. www.nysphsaa.org/ADs-Coaches/Classifications

Penfield wins their own home tournament for the first time since 2016 with a 2 set sweep over Churchville, who should contend for D2 states this year.
Also, state rankings came out for the first time this season, but some of these rankings will change pretty dramatically as the season goes on. These results are the coaches poll from the ny coaches association. Records include any best 2/3 or best 3/5 matches that I could find results for. Pool play matches and one set playoffs do not apply.
D1 1. Sachem North (Sec. XI, 11-0) 2. McQuaid Jesuit (Sec. V, 14-0) 3. Penfield (Sec. V, 9-3) 4. Shenendehowa (Sec. II, 14-0) 5. Cicero-North Syracuse (Sec. III, 15-0)
Honorable Mention: Suffern (Sec. I, 11-1) Connetquot (Sec. XI, 8-2)
D2 1. Bellmore JFK (Sec. V) 2. Burnt Hills (Sec. II) 3. Victor*** (Poll Incorrect: Victor is D1 this year) 4. Eden (Sec. VI) 5. Oswego (Sec. III)
Honorable Mention: West Seneca West Eastchester

Notable matches this week (Monday 10/14-Saturday 10/20)
Orchard Park Tournament (Saturday 10/20) Can anyone out confirm who will be there?
CNS Tri-Match (Saturday 10/20) Penfield, Shen @ CNS, starts at 12:00 on Saturday 10/20). Not sure of the order of matches, or exact times. Penfield is currently ranked #3 in the state, Shen is #4, and CNS is #5. Shen and CNS are undefeated in regulation matches.
Section 5 - Fairport @ Victor (Thursday 10/17 @ 6:30pm) Section 6 - Eden @ West Seneca West (Wednesday 10/16 @ 6:30pm)
Another slow week, but the Orchard Park tournament should be very competitive as Section VI is deep this season. The CNS tri-match looks like it will be very competitive with the 3rd, 4th, 5th ranked teams in the state.

West Seneca West HM: Burnt Hills Agree with futures rankings with the most part, but no question Bellmore should be out of the rankings for D2. They are 4-6 playing a relatively weak Section 8. Haven't any teams outside of Sections 1/2/3, but jugding off of results I'd go this ... DI 1. Sachem North 2. McQuaid 3. Penfield 4. Shen 5. Cicero-North Syracuse 6. Clarence 7. Fairport HM - Lindenhurst, Connetquot, Plainview DII 1. Churchville-Chili 2. Eden 3. Grand Island 4. West Seneca West 5. Burnt Hills 6. Spencerport 7. Canandaigua HM - I don't see any teams outside of the top 5-6 being able to compete at the D2 state level. Maybe could pull off an upset of a top 5 team, but not good enough to make a run past sectionals.

I really like there outsides.

Wow it looks like D1 AND D2 will be a blood bath in the far west. Some really good teams going home early.

Orchard PARK vs Clarence for VI and Eden vs Grand Island (unless West actually pulls it off but doubt it). Section VI D1 haven’t won D1 at all in the new state tournament era. Only one to get out of VI of all team is Eden and doubt D1 will get out, especially vs Owen Wickens (if they make it). As for D2, Grand Island vs Eden will still have to face Churchville and that’s if they (Churchville) even get out.

That’s what I meant by far west.....that includes section 5 and section 6. My point was to get out of far west it will be a very tough road. I wouldn’t count out WSW for D2A. Getting past Grand Island and Eden is a tall order for a very young team, but WSW is capable of playing very good volleyball. They also get to play up in division 1 during the year, so that sophomore heavy team is gaining a lot of good playing experience.

West won’t survive Eden’s Experience that they have.
