Sunday August 11th
0700am Bronze
0900am Gold Match
Format: 3 matches in two pools of 4 teams, top 2 in each pool advance to semifinals, bottom 2 in each pool to 5th-8th classification.
It looked like USA, Dominican Republic, and Brazil would be one of the favorites to medal. It's practically the same squads from the DR and Brazil from their Olympic Qualification Tournament where they went head to head. Brazil won in 5 sets and clinched a spot in Tokyo 2020.
Day 1 Recap: Brazil absolutely crushed Puerto Rico. Argentina and USA had a messy match and Argentina came out on top 3-2. Dominican Republic was tested in every set by Colombia but escaped 3-1 after Colombia had set point to push it to 5 in the 4th. Canada fell to Peru, but this is Canada's B team. I didn't actually get to watch any of that match.
DR and Brazil in a good position (and in all likelihood, will make the semifinals)
. The winner of Colombia vs. Peru will likely take Pool A's other semifinal spot. USA needs to beat both Brazil and Puerto Rico AND have Argentina lose to Brazil, OR hope that Puerto Rico beats Argentina, and Brazil beats both. In that scenario, three teams would be tied at 1-2. Since USA lost in 5, they're at an advantage so far if that scenario occurred.
