Does your team do end of summer Meet-n-Greets? They go by different names but it's essentially a fund-raising opportunity for the team via paid admission where they meet their rich fans and boosters in a casual setting.
If your team does these social/fundraisiing functions, how much does it cost to attend? Where is it usually held? Does the team make a lot of money?
Hawaii holds one every year -- or I should say, at least the last 2 years. I don't know if they did before. They hold it in a historic house on campus and it costs $500/person. They just held it last Saturday.

Gophers do something quasi-similar, but it’s a reward/incentive for people who sponsor player or coach lockers.
From memory, each player locker can be sponsored twice, at $500/sponsorship. Coaches’ lockers can be sponsored twice(?) at $1000 per.
Sponsors usually get the opportunity to attend part of a practice/scrimmage, followed by pictures with their locker-daughter, and a meal in the clubroom.

Stanford has one for season ticket holders ... the charge this year is $25 and it includes buffet style food. First you attend a practice, then there is a coaches chalk talk session, and then you join the players at the buffet after they shower. The coaches and players typically rotate tables so they can talk to as many attendees as possible. This function is not to make money, just to cover cost of food and kitchen staff working off hours. I've never experienced any fund raising pressure at one of these events, but the coaches already know I throw extra bucks at the program. Stanford's Meet-n-Greet is usually about 4 or 5 days before their first preseason match.

For some reason this thread reminded me of this scene from Curb Your Enthusiasm.

I'm sorry, but doesn't that sound a little, well, weird? "I sponsor the locker of this college athlete." And then the player is essentially forced to take a picture with the sponsors? Next to the locker, I'm guessing?

The weirdest part is the sponsor has to keep it tidy. JT had to quit his job to keep up.

Typically donations are tied to season tickets, so these events are thank yous to the season ticket holders (donors).

As for weird... is it any weirder than signing autographs for fans?

I would never pay $500 to attend such an event but I think I would have a good time. I would also try hard not to ask the players things they’ve been asked a hundred times. I would probably ask Hanna Hellvig, “How does Sweden view ABBA? Were they big there? Are they a national treasure?”

I would probably ask Hanna Hellvig, “How does Sweden view ABBA? Were they big there? Are they a national treasure?” Ironically, everyone from Sweden has been asked that same question a hundred times.
