I would never pay $500 to attend such an event but I think I would have a good time. I would also try hard not to ask the players things they’ve been asked a hundred times. I would probably ask Hanna Hellvig, “How does Sweden view ABBA? Were they big there? Are they a national treasure?” Ironically, everyone from Sweden has been asked that same question a hundred times. Damn.

These things are just a bad idea all the way around. Why? Do you think players really want to meet boosters?

Do you think players really want to meet boosters? I'd imagine it varies from player to player. Some probably don't mind spending a little time chatting with those who have helped enhance their volleyball career via their financial support.

I'd imagine it varies from player to player. I would guess this is true. Also maybe from booster to booster as well.

UNI started up a "volleyball 101" a few years ago where they did some volleyball demonstrations, had a Q&A session, then led people on a tour of the locker room, team room, training room, etc. I think they only did that a couple of times, and then changed it to a team scrimmage that is open to the public, but I think there is still the opportunity to meet and greet the players and staff during the event. And there is usually a meal with the team for those who have donated via the team's booster club program on that same evening.
There is also a yearly "golf outing" that is held as a fundraiser for the team, I think usually held sometime in October. Though I've never attended as I'm not much of a golfer.

Do you think players really want to meet boosters? Based on my 20+ years as a booster, seeing the players at post-match receptions, talking with them after matches, and bumping into them (figuratively) out in public.... Hell, yes. There are, surely, exceptions. But by and large, I think the players enjoy it.

Wisconsin does. It's usually just with the coaching staff. Last night there were a couple of players who came to speak during the Q&A as well.
It's free.

From the stands they just look like regular college gals. Then you get up close and they are like ten feet tall with large, imposing frames.

I am at the school to play bal, win as much as possible and go my classes so i have somekind of future when I leave the school. A bunch of people drooling over me is not for me.

ARROGANCE SPEAKS THY NAME! oh, so they don't need boosters to donate money to the program? and I don't know what sort of meet-n-greet events you are going to, but I've never seen any drooling occurring at any of the ones I've been to.

Meet and greets are stupid and dumb. The players have enough going on that they don't need to kowtow and make nice to boosters.

When Mike Hebert was coach, he would call on a few of the players to come up front and introduce themselves, or talk about the match, or answer questions from the boosters. It was amazing to watch them grow in confidence and poise over their 4 (5 if redshirted) years, and more than a few players also noted it in their senior speeches. Question: do you think the players (in VB or other sports) should have to answer questions from the media? Why, or why not?
